CZ,

you don't give enough information in your post -
caliber
chambering
manufacturer of the action, long, medium, short, magnum
hunting big, medium, small or varmints, targets, competition

Any information that will limit or stress the gun in actual use?

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.

czbuff - if this is a new production large ring mauser action you shouldn't have any problems with it at all.  The 'softer steel' concern arose from some of the older firearms produced in Spain years back, prior to WWII.

A new production action would be made of modern steels and made properly.  The Spanish have some high quality products, Spanish steel being one of them.  I would say that your action would be just fine sporting a 280 tube, although I do like the 257 Roberts.

I have owned a number of the older Spanish made pistols and there was absolutely nothing wrong with them.  HTH.  Mikey.

If you go with the 280 in the standard Mauser box mag you might run into a problem with some of the heavier bullets. I have a 1909 Arg. action barrelled in 280 Ack. Imp. and I have found that the 140 and heavier bullets have to be seated into the case a little to go through the magazine. It just so happens that my rifle loves the Rem. 150's the best. Just a thought you might want to watch out for.
