Mossberg ATR range report
« on: January 21, 2006, 02:52:24 AM »
Sighted in my new ATR in 30-06 with the Tasco 4x-12 40mm last weekend.
Decent accuracy for a hunting rifle benchresting for 100 yds. I found the rifle to be somewhat finicky to the ammo being used. Accuracy with the Remington Core Lok 150 gr grouped in the 3" range. Switching to Winchester Silver Tips 150 gr and Federal 180 gr the pattern was reduced to less than 2". I have read that the best accuracy is with bullets in the 165-170 gr range for this rifle. I will work up some handloads one day with some Sierra Game Kings in this weight range to see if the accuracy can be dropped down into the sub MOA range.
One thing I will work on is the trigger. A little to much creep for me.
Overall a very comfortable rifle to shoot, even for me being a left handed shooter.
