Family of Deceased GBO Member Lawdog needs your help.
« on: January 19, 2006, 09:15:01 AM »
I've been in contact with the daughter of our long time member and Forum Moderator Lawdog. He passed on Jan. 12 and his family does not have the money to bury him according to his daughter Desiree. They did not have insurance and can't seem to put together the money necessary to bury him she says.

If you'd like to help with this you can send any financial help you'd like to offer to Gary's wife at this address:

Ethel Reinhardt
POBox 408
Upper Lake, CA
95485.

Lawdog's real name is Gary L. Reinhardt his final arrangements are
being handled by Chapel of the Lakes 1625 N. High St, Lakeport, CA 95453 (707) 263-0357

Yes---this is bad news for all of us here.

Not sure if this is the time or the place to bring up a touchy subject---but how much of a donation should we urge members to send to his widow to help defray costs?

Does anybody know if he was drawing S/S, or was retired from the military. They both pay a small amount towards a funral.

I am sorry to hear of their loss, he will be missed.
I would think that the family could sell off some of his guns to pay for the funneral.

He was a retired LEO. I suspect that means he didn't have time to be retired from the military also but may have been in it at one time. But the death benefit paid is so small as to be of no value. His daughter Desiree said they had no insurance on him due to his health.

That really is all I know. As to an amount I'm not making a recommendation. I think that is best left to each person's pocketbook and conscious. I have asked her for a phone number so I can speak with her and for the amount of money they need to bury him but haven't heard back.

I'd really like someone who actually knew him personally and who might be in the area or at least knows the family to do some checking and let us know more.

I talked to Garys  (Lawdog) son today and didn't get much out of him and he said things were going pretty well considering. I didn't know how much to send so I sent 100.00 with a credit card to the funeral home. The family decided to have him cremated to cut down on the cost. If any one is interested in sending money the address is listed on Medium bore rifles.
This is the funeral home. I am sure the family would appreciate any help we can give them...........Joe.............

Here is the latest information I have received from Gary's daughter Desiree:

Quote
Bill,

Funeral services are $2900, the casket (because he was
so tall) is a larger one is at least $2000 we did find
one that every hunter would love which was $3000, the
plot (we did choose a double so that mom could be
layed to rest with him when her time comes) to bury
him and costs to open in close the graves is $2900.
At this point even if we go with the simple cremation
and no service, just burn him and put him in a plastic container, is it $1600 which still leaves what to do with the ashes and dad absolutely never wanted to be cremated.

I heard much the same as oso45-70 did. Sounds like Bill heard the final decision.  Wonder if enough of us contributed if this would change things to what Gary wanted.

Bill, is it set in stone the cremation is the way it's going? Maybe update us Monday if you happen to hear.

I don't think they are actually leaning in that direction but I really don't know. To be honest I don't know what to make of the situation. I'm only posting what I am told by the daughter Desiree who contacted me about it after I e-mailed his account asking for confirmation of his death.

The reply to that from his wife indicated no problems. The contact with the son by someone above kinda indicated the same. The daughter says her mom is too proud to ask for help. I dunno. I did comment to her about the money donated by one member to the Funeral home via credit card and she says she has checked with them and they say they have no record of such.

I honestly don't know what is going on and am making no personal recommendations in the matter as I'm not on the ground there and just plain don't understand what is happening. I sure wish someone living close enough would drop by and figure it out and let us all know.
