Muskie Hunter - They're both good with the regular Weatherby's being very good. A little pricey and their factory ammo ain't cheap. I've got an older Varmint Master in .224 WBY Mag and its my safe queen! Shoots great though! CEJ...

I think they are expensive, I don't usually shoot weatherbys, but from what people say, they are accurate and nice looking....

But to be honest, so is Remington and winchester rifles, both look nice and shoot well.

I own the WBY 257 and the WBY costs a little more but it shoots the first rounds fired a few in the same hole. I like mine its the Mark 5 model. As far as the Vangards go I think they are a good deal. :D

I have a mark V in 30-06...fancy walnut. It is a terrific accurate deer rifle!
A bit on the heavy side, but I stay in shape, so for me not an issue.
I paid $500 on sale 15 years ago. Don't think walnut is that cheap anymore, but I don't think synthetic is too high.. Anyone know?
Got a lot of the "classic" bolts that I really like. I like the Weatherby the best. I believe the 9 locking lugs on the bolt really enhance shot after shot accuracy... If I was looking for the ultimate production rifle, I'd save up for the mark V... (My Vanguard .270 is next on my list)!

I have the Vanguard and a Howa. Both shoot better than I can. Both required a minor trigger adjustment. The Vanguard has a better syn. stock and came with a factory target showing a group slightly larger than 1". From a rest using factory ammo I got 3/4". I worked up a hand load and now routinely get 1/2" groups. I won't tell you about the Howa Varminter because you wouldn't believe it. Both were purchased last year.

The Mark V doesn't come cheap.  I picked up a left-handed, factory-second accumark in .257 Weatherby a couple years ago (has some minor blemishes on the stock).  It took some time to find a load it liked, but maybe that's an issue with all true, magnum calibers.  But off the bench, it will group 117 grain gamekings inside a half-inch.  Wish I could measure up to my rifle's potential.  It came with a great trigger and has dropped 2 deer in their tracks with 2 shots.  Was it worth the money ($900)?  Yeah.  Would I pay the MSRP of $1,600?  No.

I like the trigger, I like the monte carlo stock and raised cheekpiece, and while I don't worry about blown cases, it's nice to know you've got the best gas-porting system on the market.

I like the looks of a classic, straight combed stock. However, the Monte Carlo stock Weatherby uses handles recoil better for me. Feels like it is recoiling away from my cheek instead of into it.

I have a super big game master in 300 win mag and it's OK, which really irks me.  It should be awesome for the price.

It shot 3 inch groups with every load I tried.  I tried all the premium loads.  Sent it back under warranty and they claimed they fixed it.  Now it shoots the 1.5 inch group, but only with Hornady Heavy Mags.

Now, don't get me wrong, I've shot 2 elk and several deer and hogs with it and it carries like a dream and feels so good in your hands.  BUT, for $1,300 you would wish it shot 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups.  My Rem 700 in 300 mag at $500 will shoot 10 rounds in a row into a sub one inch group.  Maybe my expectations are too high, but I just feel let down after saving all through grad school to buy it.

  :(

I bought a new Vanguard stainless a couple of weeks ago. It had a terrible trigger but the rest of it was impressive for the price. I took it to the neighborhood gunsmith to fix the trigger and picked it up today. The trigger now has no creep and breaks clean at 3 pounds as I requested. The smith said it is one of the easier triggers to work with. He had it down to 2 1/2 pounds no problem. Figure about $40 for a trigger job if you buy a Vanguard. I imagine the Mark 5 trigger is good out of the box - it should be, anyway.

I have had 2, both in 30-06.  I liked them both but neither was a tack driver.   Each would shoot consistent 1.25 groups with factory ammo.  I did not reload at the time or I think they would have shot MOA.

You are shootin better now too Long!  :)

I have had several from Vanguards to Mark Vs...they ALL shot very well
I just picked up a LazerMark in 30.06 and with factory 165 Sierras it shot under MOA yesterday. With some loads worked up and a little trigger tuning it will be even better. 8)
