New Grips
« on: January 09, 2006, 09:41:36 AM »
Just dropped off my new FA 83 Premiere 475 Linebaugh 4 3/4 inch at Eagle Grips.  Raj, the owner of Eagle Grips is shaping a pair of Indian Sambar Stag panels for me that will better fit my small hands and he promises will be "a very special set for a very special gun"  Raj is a great fan of FA guns as well.  He has a small supply of genuine stag available.  I will try to post pictures when I get it back in a couple of days.  Raj tells me the stag is very tough and can handle the recoil easily.  These should be lifetime grips for a great packin gun.  :-)

Shilo,

As far as I know Eagle has one of if not the only supply of genuine Sambar Stag for grips.  India banned the export of Stag antlers quite a few years ago.  Raj promised me he would pick out some real nice pieces for my gun with nice color, but not so sharply figured that they would influence the rollback for the recoil.  He also says the Stag is strong and dense enough to stand up to a lifetime of full power loads in a 475.  So the grips will take it even if I can not.    It is good to have the owner of Eagle Grip living in your neighborhood! I will post pictures as soon as I can and I have been told Eagle Grips will be using my new grips on my new gun for their promo pictures as well.  Buffalo Horn and Stag were two of the traditional custom grip materials for customizing Colts in the old west as I understand.  I figure a gun as great as a FA should have great traditional and functional grips as well.

Sounds great!
I just had the grips on my FA83 done by Scott Kolar at SK Custom Grips.
I had mine done with antique Micarta. They turned out very nice. I would post a picture but technology and I don't get along very well.
