:? I have been in a dilemma over my replacement 30-06. I have agonized for hours over the pros and cons of a new Rem 700 XCR vs a new Tikka SS Laminate, both in 30-06 to replace my 1968 Rem 700.
Well tonight at a local gunshop I had a rude awkening to the new Remingtons.
I have read alot of posts on the Tikka's recoil lug and the stock cracking on the big .338's and .300's. I also have read about the inferior workmanship on the new Remingtons, as well as the lack of customer service.
I have always been a Remington man, but was spoiled with the pre-2000 rifle I own. I picked up a new Remington 700 XCR and pulled the bolt. The left lug had a very noticeable gouge/tool mark on the side and the bolt was very rough opening. The Tikka was one of the smoothest opening and closing I have ever handled and just "felt right." I don't like to "fix" a new gun, but will probably glass the Tikka to be on the safe side for the recoil lug. I'm still not totally ready to take the plunge yet, but I'm leaning towards the Tikka.
Any input or your thoughts would be appreciated.
Mike
