I have a 45 huntsman that pops open when you fire it . The breach plug has a pin in it to keep it from coming out. How can I fix the poping open when fired. Can I get a set of fiberoptic sights for this gun. It is an H@R not a NEF gun.  tireman Thanks

Welcome to Graybeards.

Be very careful with that Huntsman with the push in breech plug, that thing is VERY DEADLY! No I am not kidding, those plugs have been known to come back and take out the shooter. Also if you have a misfire, don't open that sucker, they have been known to hangfire and go off when opened. I would not shoot it until you get it fixed. The latch or spring could be broken or weak. The current company will not work on the older Huntsmans, so unless you are handy a gunsmith is in order.

If you are looking to fix it and put some new fiber optic sights on it, I bet you could get a brand new .50 cal Huntsman or Sidekick for a little more.

I take it there is not an easy fix to the 45.  Anybody have a 50 cal barrel to fit a NEF SB1 frame they want to part with cheep.   Tireman thanks for the info

tireman, I think NEF will fit a Huntsman barrel to that SB-1 frame. I have an older frame and I called gave them the serial number and NEF installed a 30-30 barrel and a Huntsman barrel to my frame. Hey you never know and you will be happy with the Huntsman it has not let me down. :D

First the auto opening, which sounds like a bbl. latch problem...see the stickies in the centerfire forum for help.

Second, the chance of misfires causing peril, especially since yours opens of it's own volition! :shock:  You don't mention misfiring problems, but if you have a no. 11 primer nipple on your breechplug chuck the thing and replace it with a 209 primer holder..no misfires!

The 209 holder is available from www.hubbardsoutdoorproducts.com very reasonably priced.

If it interests you the flat interior face of the push-in breechplug can be hollowed out into a conical powder well eliminating residue blowback into the standing breech area. I did my own with complete success, but you may want to ask help from a smithie on this one.
