Hi All, I've already got a 1911 style .45. It's a good shooter but am now looking for something in the same cal but a little different. ( I live in MA where 1911's are now "unsafe" and worth their weight in gold.)
The gun will be mainly used for general plinking, informal target and maybe an occasional plate /pin match. I was thinking of something in a 4" barrel autoloader but don't want a double stack mag. ( i have med sized hands and naver liked those 2x4 grips.) I als don't want a plastic gun. ( Just old school I guess.) Looking at the para ordnace LDA and also  considering a .45 ACP revolver ( w moon clips) like the Taurus 455 Tracker.
Any thoughts/ opinions welcome.

Ruger's guns are pretty good, IMHO.  I'd opt for the P-90 over the P-97, myself, but it's a personal thing anyway.  

The S&W 625 would be a good choice, too.  I've got a 625-6 and I love it (moon clips are cool).

I'm absolutely WILD over my Sig P245.  It's very accurate, easy to shoot, and makes a great carry gun.  I use it for winter carry and use my smaller
P239 for summer.

tacoma:  the Taurus tracker has received very high marks, as has the S&W 625.  For semi autos, the Sig is an excellent choice.  I am thinking that whatever revolver I may choose, I would want it to function with the half moon or full moon clips.  I think the Taurus rates highest there, but on that specific point I'm not so certain.  Hope this helps.  Mikey.

FEG GKK .45 - double-action Hi-Power type w/decocker - takes 1911 mags.
CZ97 .45 - double-action w/cocked & locked capability - 10+1
EAA WITNESS .45 - double-action w/cocked & locked - 10+1 (CZ clone by Tanfoglio)

In all cases, 'double-action' means you can have double action on the first round, but it's single action after that, or you could cock the hammer to fire. The FEG is the only one of the three that it would be safe to carry with hammer down on a loaded chamber.
Prices are: FEG $289, CZ97 $500, EAA $315

I had a GKK 92C 10 years ago which is the same as the GKK .45 except 9mm and 14 rounds, and it was a great gun. Back then I didn't realize that and traded it in on a Beretta 92. DUH.

If you go with a revolver remember the Tracker (nice little gun) is a five shot. For gun games that is reason enough to go with the S&W 625!

Tacoma, I have owned/still own a Colt, a Sprinfield, 3 Rugers, a Taurus and 2 Sigs.  I can say that the 2 Sigs have absolutely been the best ones I've owned period.  No if ands or buts!  You aim pull the trigger and it works.  I have NEVER had any kinda stoppage in either  my P239 in 357 Sig or my P245 in .45,  not a single one.  Well, OK, once I did miss one round with the powder and stuck the bullet in the barrel,  but that was my stupidity and not the guns fault.  Oh, they are the most accurate also.

I forgot the Star Model Super B - looks like a 1911 and has an 8rd mag. $139 at J&G right now. Excellent gun to clean up and refinish.

Ok , so I've searched every gunshop within 30 mi. Did find one decient Sig 220 but it was a little beat (finish wise) as it was a duty gun. No .45 acp revolvers at all.  Just when I was about to give up, I spotted a minty Star M-45 in the corner of a case. Stainless, very heavily built little gun ( over 1000 gr) w 3.5" barrel and 6-7 round capacity. Price was to good to pass up and about 1/2 that of the sig. Had enough left over for a homeless 686 in 4" as well. Had to take them home.  In teh mean time,I'll still keep my eyes open for a nice 625 /Taurus Tracker in the next couple of months.

That LDA won't be enough unlike your 1911 to make it worth your while.
The trigger is pretty novel, but otherwise, what?
Myself, I love a revo, but don't think I'd like keeping up with those little clips. They'd end up everywhere.
You said you didn't want plastic, so I guess I have to vote for the Sig.
But if you get a chance to shoot an HK you might just have a second thought.
Why stick with ACP? Just like it?
You might give a thought to the 45 Colt.
That little titanium revo from Taurus is on my short list.
Not ACP, not a repeater, not a 4" bbl.
Not sure I'm helping here!
