long action scope mounts
« on: January 03, 2006, 08:22:19 AM »
Well my scope is not long enough to mount on my stevens 200, 270 caliber.  Currently trying weavers' 2 piece base.  Before I order new mounts, any suggestions?

Hi There,

You can step back mounts to take care of the short tube problem   just make sure it gives you enough eye relief as climbing up the stock to get a full clear view gets tired pretty quick

I like the short scopes but some of my longer actions won't allow them to be properly moounted if I use 2 piece bases.  If I use a weaver type rail then I can mount it where and how I want to.  Mikey.

Just get a set of off set weaver rings, should be what you need :D   JIM

The extended bases might be the ticket and generally can be had for not all that much.

Stopped at Gander Mt. last night and found extended bases.  Embarrased to say I didn't know they made them.  Guess I will crawl back under my rock now.  Thanks for the info.

Errr the only stupid question is the one not asked

So you had not come across or seen extended mounts before. Well you asked a question and now you learned something new, Every day you learn something is not wasted  :-)

Pawoods,

You can also buy extension rings and just extend them towards each other. If you don't need that much just use one extension and one std of the same height(and brand)

I just ran across this problem last night trying to mount my Tasco MAG 3x12 scope on a Mossberg ATR. The Leupold rings are to wide and doesn't allow the scope tube to sit flush because of the flare front and rear. Will try thinner rings like from Millett or use the extended mounts mentioned here.
