Help restocking a Grey Wolf?
« on: January 02, 2006, 05:37:27 PM »
OK Guys....

I have a 2005 Sako Grey Wolf in .270 Win...it shot well during the barrel break in but now (150 rounds) it is REALLY shooting outstanding...with just about every dang ammo I put through it reloads and factory.
I grabbed a box of Hornady 140gr SSTs (on sale cheep!) and went out and shot a 0.017"

The problem is the overall weight...between the fairly heavy barrel contour and the Lam stock it is a load in the field. I have a 3.3X10X44 Zeiss on top of it.

Should I put on a light aftermarket syn stock?
Will that jepordize my accuracy? :(

Ideas... Opinions... please!!!!

what does it matter how good it shoots if you don't take it hunting.  I bet accuracy will be similar in a quality synthetic stock.

bear,he didn't say he didn't hunt with it,just that it's a load

IF ya just ain't gonna be happy with it and take it hunting, the try another stock.......but for that kinda accuracy,I'd keep it and buy a lightweight gun

(hmmmm,a Tikka T3 lite comes to mind,strange)

Thats a logical thought...I do have a Winny Featherweight in 7mm 08 that more of a carry gun. When you put the two side by side its amazing how much heavier the Sako barrel is.

The .270 Sako filled the "western rifle" niche for me...until I carried it up and down the hills for a while. Its a perfect "drive the truck" and stalk gun...or maybe Texas box blind.

I guess, to be honest, its so dang accurate I thought it would make a great platform for a customizing job...cause I only need the stock, Everything else is fine.

McMillian, H.S. , Bell & Carlson, lots of price differences.
