I bought a CZ452 American 17HMR offin a buddy yesterday. I'm quite impressed! After shimming the action to free float the barrel, I printed a couple of 1.10" groups @100yds using 20gr CCI and hornady ammo. Something I noticed was that both brands of ammo chronographed almost 100fps faster than the manufacturers claimed. I'll post some pics later.

Out of curiosity, why did you shim the action?   I posted awhile back about this same gun my best friend has. Stock out of the box with Hornaday ammo we both punched dime-sized groups at 100 yards over and over..........then proceeded to vaporize any groundsquirrel that stuck a whisker above dirt clod level: like, a couple hundred rounds fired and we missed maybe 20!

Benchrest that thing solidly and I bet you do better than 1.10"!  Let us know!  I was so durned impressed I'm buying one myself before critter season this spring.

In order to free float the barrel I inserted 2 small plastic shims underneath the front of the reciever, therefore lifting the barrel out of the stock ever so slightly resulting in a completely freefloating barrel.
Here is a pic of some more groups I shot today, I think the rifle has a little more accuracy in it but these groups are the best I could manage today.

Congrats on your new rifle.
My 17 was also a shooter right out of the box, it didn't require any mods at all (except a trigger job that I did).  :-D

Same with my 452! I mounted a 6x24 scope on it, and proceeded to the range. It shot under an inch with all types of ammo, and the only mod I made was the trigger return spring.

452s seem to be great shooters out of the box.  mine in the 17hmr shoots like this:
my 9 yr old boy shot this 5 shot group at 100yds

CZ and Savage 17HMR

I have a Savage 17HMR and it is a shooter but has a heavy trigger.  I shot a CZ and the Savage is going bye bye.  The CZ trigger is just as good as the Centerfire rifles.   Buckfever
