Winchester 70 in 300WIN or Weatherby Vanguard in 300WSM?????

Both are blue synthetic.  The Winchester has a 26" barrel and the Vanguard a 24".  Which is better, and why?

RicMic,It looks to be it's just a matter of preference, the weatherby will come with a MOA guarantee, but either rifle will probably do it....the price of the weatherby will probably be less also....in either caliber, you're gonna experience a pretty good thump,it looks like the 300 WSM has slightly less recoil in simular weight guns (about 2-3 pounds less)then you hafta look at what the 2 guns weigh.obviously, the heavier, the less felt recoil....also, the 300WSM will be a short action, and the 300 WIN MAG will be a long action

Ultimately,it comes down to how each feels in YOUR hands, not what I like or anybody else likes.....weight,how well it fits you, smoothness of the action, trigger pull (the vangaurd is adjustable,i'm not sure about the winchester)

all that said,I'm gonna vote for a Tikka T3 lite   :D

seriously,do hold one of these before you make up your mind,I LOVE mine,it shoots half inch groups and feels great in my hands and is very lightweight...also,the trigger has no creep and can be adjusted down to 2 pounds with an allen wrench and the bolt is silky smooth
Good shot placement + well constructed bullet = DEAD

I was at that darn Cabela's and they did it to me again, I try to resist but it just doesn't work.  There was a Model 70 Sporter LT on the clearance rack in 300 WSM, blued/wood.  List's on Winchester website for $773 and they had it tagged for $489.  Well they saw this sucker walking through the door and put a spot light on it and I took the bait...hook, line, sinker and half the pole.

I had a voucher for $30 (which made it $459 plus tax) and used that and put it on layaway.  Now I just need to find a way to pay the darn thing off and figure a way to get it into the house without the wife knowing.

Now I'm going to have to find a nice scope (geezzzz what's that going to run me).

Darn them, keep away from that store, it's full of deceitful things.

As for the Vanguard or the Winchester.  I'm partial to Winchesters obviously, but if you don't handload the 300 Winchester Mag will be cheaper for factory ammo and usually easier to find.  The 300 WSM will have a smaller bolt though and quicker on the cycle.

It's a personal thing I guess.

Josh
My wife once made the mistake of telling me "all of your guns look alike"...No, I've had this gun for a long time! LOL

Just tryin to help a friend out   :-D  :-D  :-D

Well, earlier today I counldn't resist either.  A 2 or3 year old blue model 70 in 300 Win Mag with a hinged floor plate synthetic stock wearing a Bushnell Elite 3200 scope.  The whole rig looks new - $325 plus tax!
