well,I got 2 button bucks this afternoon with my Tikka T3 in 25-06 (first deer with it) ,shot one left handed through the chest and the other one took off but then stopped (BAAAAD mistake) I slammed one into his spine and it was "bang-flop" :D

BTW,I don't make a practice of shooting small deer, especially bucks, but the property we're hunting will not be available for hunting again as it is being developed into a subdivision,so trophy management is not an option

New subdivision or not, there is something that just doesn't sit well with me about shooting button bucks (or any yearling for that manner).  I would imagine, or at least hope, that the deer would find other areas in which to adapt.

Other than that, congrats on the Tikka.  I also have one in .25-06 and it is a real tack driver.

What ammo did you use?

Zachary,I was using the hornady light mags, that's the hornady my sporting goods store has up here, but the next time i get to the store where I bought my Tikka,I'll buy some more Hornady 117 gr. SST's.....my Tikka seems to LOVE those (half inch groups as apposed to one and a quarter inch groups with the light mags)

Aaron, the light mags,to me,aren't worth buying, only gained a 110 feet per second over the standard hornady sst's,and it makes it kick noticeably harder AND it doesn't group as well.

thanks for the kind words, man :D

Interestingly, in my rifles chambered in 7mm-08, they seem to shoot the Light Magnums more accurately than standard ammo.

This, of course, is not to mean that LMs should shoot better in ALL guns.  I'm just saying that they seem to shoot better in mine.

117 grains for a .284 caliber bullet seem light to me.  However, If the 117 SSTs shoot 1/2" groups, then I wouldn't hesitate to use them in your 7mm-08 (that is, of course, if you use them on smaller to medium sized deer).  I honestly didn't know that Hornady made 117s for their 7mm-08s.

Zachary,before ya go lookin for a 117 gr bullet in a 7MM-08....I'm shooting a 25-06   :D

and I believe a 117 gr 25-06 will knock down the biggest deer in the woods as long as you place it in the vitals....and if you don't,a 300 win mag won't do it humanely either

I was thinking 117 is a weird weight for a 7mm-08.

I have a model 7 in the 7-08 that just loves the 139 gr L M s. I have tried almost every bullet I know and the only thing that came close was a friend who loaded ammo years ago for me and he used the 139 gr Hornady bullets. He is dead now  so I use the LMs with great success.
