6.8 Remington in the 527??
« on: December 18, 2005, 09:34:47 AM »
Has anyone heard if CZ plans to do this?  It seems to me that the 527 is a natural for this cartridge.  The only bolt gun in this caliber I am aware of is the Model 7 Alaskan, from the Remington Custom shop.  It is well over $1000 for that gun.

I personally would like to see a 22 inch barrel, but I would not be surprised if CZ would put it in the Carbine.

I would not hold my breath. This cartrige is already a commercial failure for remington, combine that with the fact that the military could care less about the 6.8. I doubt you will see any firearms in this cartrige other than the remington Alaskan. In my opinion 6.8 spc is the .41ae for the new mellinum.

Now 6.5 Grendel on the otherhand would be pretty nifty in some production rifles.

I am hoping it stays around.  I have read that Hornady is going to produce a load, and Thompson Center makes a 120 grain load as well.  Many of the AR-15 makers offer rifles and upper recievers in this caliber now.  The AR market may be relative small, but they use a lot of ammo.  I suppose this could lead to numerous offerings by ammunition makers with comparatively few rifle offerings.

Just some thoughts

Hornady is going to make a load for the 6.8?  I will believe it when I see it. They don't even make one for the 260.

I personally called CZ customer service not more than three months ago and they told me they "absolutely" planned on 6.8 SPC in the model 527.  They went on to say it would probably be a spring 2006 introduction.

As for Hornady 6.8 factory loads, that too should be on the market soon.   It's already being listed on Midway's sight, though it says "coming soon."

Remington already has two other moldel 700s other than the Alaskan model chambered for this round (look at the 700 tactical) and is planning on making the new model seven CDL and their SPS model available in 6.8 SPC.  Just be patient.

I found this searching around on the internet

http://www.hornady.com/story.php?s=177

Good news.  I hope some less expensive rifles are released too.  My favorite gun store typically offers CZ 527's for $450-$550 depending of model, that is not too bad. I would prefere a NEF in this caliber.  Just the same, if I were Ruger I would be all over this for the Mini 14/30, it is another perfect firearm for this caliber.

Hey biglmbass, what is the SPS you are referring to.  Is it a police rife.  I would love to see this added to their Spartan line.  I have to be budget minded after all.

The SPS is basically Remingtons new model that replaces the ADL configuratino that was recently dropped from production.  The SPS comes in matte blued (looks parkerized) or matte stainless.  24" barrels in standard calibers, and 26" for mag calibers, no sights on either.  The stocks are a very plain black synthetic a bit better that the old ADL synthetic stocks, IMHO.  Do a search on Rem 700 SPS.  They've been available from Rem for several months now.
