58 huntsman what load?

help father just gave me his old 58 cal huntsman, took a while to find some needed parts. now i need some help in finding a good load for this gun.

:D duckey1, did a little reaching in this forum for 58. Cal. Huntsman. I found a thread on the fourth page of this forum dated March 08, 2005, with some good info. You might want to start there to get started or call NEF to get some info. Welcome aboard !!!

i had  a 58 a long time used 570 hornady round balls..90 grains pryo loose and a poly patch...with good results...cant find many poly patches these days they quit makin them i think...only bullet i had found to shoot good was a lee target bullet with 70 gr. loose pryo.....is the gun you have a screw in or push in breech plug????????jb

The manual states not to load over 100gr of 2fBlack powder with a 405 gr minie.  I use a 525gr minie and 70gr of 2f. For a PRB I shoot 75gr Goex BP and a 277gr PRB that I mould. The patch material I use is well worn denim. Old blue jeans. I lube the patches with bacon/sausage grease couldn't find any bear fat.

This load shoots clover leaf 3 shot groups at 50 yds.

reply: no my 58 has a push in plug, i changed it to use a 209
