Mod 66 or 608?

Thinking of buying one of these in SS 4in, but am concerned about the porting on the 608.  What is the diference in recoil and noise between the two?

I have a Rossi with 3" ported. It is LOUD. Noticeably louder than my model 66 Taurus 4" unported. My Taurus is very accurate and gets shot a lot. It's at least 15 years old, not sure of the newer ones.

well if your range shooting with muffs the noise  wont be to much diff, now if ur not and usein it to hunt or self defense  yes the ports make a lot more noise and i never really noticed a big recoil diff , but i never use  hot hot loads so it may make some on them,

The porting is a whole lot louder than non ported. It noticeably reduces recoil lift but the ribbing of the grips cushion recoil. My wife uses the 608 with 3" barrel and full house loads. The accuracy is outstanding! :grin:

Last June I bought a 608 .357 with 8 3/8" barrel.  I ordered the factory scope mount (for the ribbed rail) and set up a propoint red-dot sight on it.  With some handloads I stumbled across using Hornady 158gr XTP's I shoot 1 3/4" groups at 50 yds off a bag.  I've done this successfully between batches of loads.  As stated.   This gun is accurate!

I will say, on the down side, that it took a bunch of rounds to smooth out the action.  It was rough at one point in the cylinder on single and double action use.  It's all smoothed out now and I'm very happy with the gun.  

Now to take some game with it.  I'm hoping to line out a coyote this winter/spring.  That is if I can call one in.
