550 fs stock and scope compatability???
« on: December 16, 2005, 03:59:39 PM »
i am thinking of purchasing a 550 fs and am a little concerned about how well a scope will work in regards to the amount of drop in the stock.i know the bavarian style stock is intended to be used with the open sights.i read some posts about lower rings and think that they would be a neccesity, i would be using a compact scope with a small mm objective.i am assuming the 550 does come milled to accept scope mounts.any input would be appreciated, thanks

Huh? where does this only iron sights with this Bavarian stock come from?

I suppose this means that the Germainics only use iron sights and do not hunt Kieler (Boar) by moonlight with larg objective scopes?

It is true that the euripeans tend to shoot with head erect nor scrunched down on the stock. Funnily enough the British shoot this way   too 8) And they find it works, it also means that should you wish to use the iron sights as abck up or just because you like them, well you can comfortably do so with out having to shove your cheek half way through the butt like on some American high comb designs

Although my 601 does not have the Bavarian stock it has a classic one the comb is still lower than a US one would be and it works just fine even with the fairly high one piece CZ-Bront dedicated mount holding the Zeiss-Jena 4x scope. There are pictures of it on this forum   so if you want you can check it out.

My brother owns a CZ 550 Full Stock in 7x57mm and he has the CZ rings holding a Burris Fullfield 4x12 scope. Duffy, my brother, has no problems at all with this rig. I believe CZ manufactures just one height of rings. I had a set on my CZ 550 American in 7x57mm, but I went with the Talley Rings and gave the CZs away to a forum buddy in Texas. Talley makes low, medium and high rings and come in either matt or polished. The CZ 550 receiver is machined for the rings and the whole system is solid as a tank. One of the fellows on a forum said he took a set of the CZ rings, which come only in the matt finish, and had them polished and blued and they came out looking like a set of custom rings. Hope this helps ... Tom Purdom
