Well thanks in large part to this site and, of course, the perfection of Freedom Arms guns I picked a M97 today, my first. It's a 5 1/2" octogon barrelled 45 Colt with micarta grips. I own a few pretty nice custom SA's but this piece is absolutely flawless. I am hooked, as they say. To the range in the morning.  :-D

I'm insanely jealous, my next FA purchase keeps getting pushed further back and I'm about to throw a hissy fit over the situation!

I took her out with some "cheap" bag loads from a local Houston commercial loader that I picked up at a gunshow as all of my loading equipment is in Calgary. The load consisted of the 250 gr XTP driven to 950 fps. I was only able to shoot at 20 yards but it was quite easy to shoot inside 1 1/2" and many, many groups were "one-holers" until I would blow it. I have been in denial that I need glasses, this range session proved it once more... Anyway, I love the gun and it is clearly a tack driver. The trigger pull is a bit stiff (feels like 4+ # while I prefer 2 1/2 - 3 #) and has a bit more creep than I would like. I'll likely take her apart and see what I can do about that. Now I am eyeing a 5 1/2" M97 in 22 LR with a 2X Leupold. It appears new and is fairly priced at $1,200. And then there's this 7 1/2" 44 Spl with the 2-6X B&L in the Lovell mount for $1,400. Oh boy...

5.5" octagon barrel with micarta grips - that is beautiful!
