Sako Vs. Tikka
« on: December 16, 2005, 01:43:11 PM »
My buddy wants to get the Grey Wolf Sako. A friend of ours has a Tikka and he likes the way it shoots and handles. Is the Sako really twice the gun? Outside of the Detachable Mag I do not see much difference. Is the Sako stronger due to the third lug? He is thinking 7mag.I am a Winchchester man, but handling the Tikka I am impressed! It shoots, that is for sure! My friends is a 308. Does the Stock design handle recoil well? Thank you for reading!

Sako Vs. Tikka

I own both.  The Sako has no plastic components.  Rather, it is all stainless steel.  The Sako action is also stronger, although, believe it or not, I find the Tikka action to be smoother.  Both guns have essentially the same barrels, but stock designs are definately different.  As to whether a particular stock may provide less perceived recoil is really dependent on the particular fit to a particular shooter.

Are Sakos really twice the gun?  Or are Tikkas really double the value?  Only you and your wallet can answer that question, although I believe the answer to both questions is yes.

Hi some time ago at a competition to showcase Sako's best firearms was held but  thier cheaper brothers the Tikka's scooped the pool , must have been a bit embarrassing ..As to the strength question , all of todays rifles are much stronger than the brass cartridge case and are proof tested to pressures which are way above the operating pressure of any cartridge currently manufactured and meant to be fired from any hand held gun ..  As to the Sako being stronger than the Tikka I can only mention the Sako's that were recalled after at least one had destroyedd it's self when being fired using standard factory ammo , that may been seen as a low blow because the blownup rifle was manufactuerd using some stainless steel that was out of spec as supplied .. The strength of modern firearms compared to older ones is not a mater of guesswork but modern materials  calculations and scientific knowledge and the debate of wther one brand is stronger than another is not worth the time spent in argument all are fit for purpose kiwi Rob

I also own both and have been around plenty of others.  I agree with Zachary in that the Tikka is not equal to the Sako, although I think the Sako action is smoother but is also heavier than the Tikka.  I would not have any quams about owning either or buying either.  The Gray Wolf is a very nice rifle.  My buddy has one in 270 and it is a 1/2 MOA shooter.  The Sako rifles are a bit heavier than the Tikkas and I think the Gray Wolf is a bit heavier, with the laminated stock, that the regular 75 Hunter.

Tikka T 3

I have 3 T3's, 6.5x55, and a 30-06.  I find the guns to be inherently accurate right out of the box.  The T3 is lighter than the Sako which I believe is a nice feature for lower recoil firearms and not so nice to larger calibers.  I bought a 30-06 in a Grey Laminate because I knew it would be a little heavier than a standard T3.  It is just the right weight for me and if I was to get a larger caliber I would go Sako or CZ for more weight and help with recoil.  While my T3's look great and I have great confidence in them I am not concerned about getting them dirty or scratched, they didn't cost $1000.00 but they shoot like it!!!!!   Buckfever
