Anyone have this problem chambering a round Savage 110 300?
« on: December 16, 2005, 01:11:12 PM »
I have a Savage 110 in 300 mag. Ive noticed if i try to slowly close the bolt the round will sometimes pop up and come out partially. This occurs as the catridge clears the lips on the internal magazine. Only other Savage i tried was a 22-250 and it didnt do this. Ive been told its normal and the bolt should just be cycled fast. It doesnt occur if i work the bolt fast.

Does the same thing on my savage 06, if I work the bolt slowly the cartridge will pop out.  In fact this is how I unload the magazines without chambering the rounds.  Just work the bolt slowly and when the shell pops out I dump them in my hand.  The same thing happens on all my Remingtion rifles too.

I've never had that problem with my Savage110 300 win mag. I've had 2 barrels on it and redid the stock and set the trigger to my likeing. It is now one of my favorit rifles. Sorry never had that problem tho. :D

Yes, that happens when I try to slow feed my 110 in .30-06 and it is annoying especially when sighting the rifle in at the bench when I've had to re-zero the rifle after making adjustment or working on the rifle or installing a new scope.  My Remington 700s do not pop the shells up with as much force as the Savage does when working the bolt slowly.

That said, a bolt action rifle is designed to have the bolt worked with authority and swiftyly.  Therefore, it is difficult to fault the Savage as it feeds shells reliably when working the bolt quickly.  Still, it is annoying.
