Somebody tell me the value of this older Win M70 30-06?
« on: December 16, 2005, 12:23:56 PM »
This gun was supposedly made around WWII. Serial num. Is 3 894. Dont know why there is a space btween the serial numbers. Posted this on another forum also. They say looks like a pre-64. Only Quest is the black tip which they say only comes on the supergrade which would be marked on the floorplate. This one isnt marked supergrade on the floorplate. The butt plate is metal. The bolt is a dull silver, doesnt look as though it was ever blued. Any help is appreciated. My brother in law got the gun in a trade along with some money. He doesnt hunt and its been sitting in his closet.

I don't if I am going to be much help. I owned a "pre64", and  a after 64, and a post 72 modes 70 Win. The pre 64 06 I owned had no black on the fore stock. It had a Mauser action style on the bolt, much like the Ruger M77 mk2. The other 2 have the black on the forestock.
Many custom gunsmiths use the pre 64 in their creations. I certainly wish I had mine back.
