Help on Rifle in 375 H&H

Hi All,

Have been following this thread and took a look at the C.Daly site. Those are awful looking stocks :(  and no I ain't joking. Tarty comes to mind the pistol grips caps look like an after thought stuck on. Sheesh glad if I need a heavy I have one    It's an old Parker-Hale 1100M in 458 WM which came from the factory bedded with a 2nd lug on the barrel express sights and a weighted stock so it weighs about 10lbs without a scope, built on a M98 action whic has a magnum trigerguard and magazine so should I wish to have ut re-barreled it can be made into a .375H&H or any other full length magnum.

I have not heard of probles with the CZ-Brno magnum but then again I know little about the 550's having had dealings wiht the older 601 and 602 models. 8)

nasem, no need to worry about the barrel length. The .375H&H is particularly efficient at burning powder. You really only need 20". The difference in barrel length (25" vs. 26") has a negligible effect on velocity, so I wouldn't let that sway me one way or the other. At this point I would suggest you handle both weapons and see which one feels better to you.

You know what, I agree with you guys, this weekend Im going to bunch of gun shops and holding both rifles....
the cz-550 and the winchester stainless model 70 (with synthetic stock)

I have a feeling the winchester is going to win the contest.

A 20” .375 H&H would have a muzzle blast that would make a brass monkey flinch. I wouldn't want to be standing next to anyone shooting one!     Lawdog

Indeed, Lawdog. I had a Sako AV in .375H&H with a 20" barrel... with a muzzle break. The blast was glorious! Absolutely glorious! But that sucker was always good for dinner inside 300 yards.

With my Sako 375 I put three bullets threw the same bullet hole at 200 yds. Recoil isn't bad either If you hole the rifle right. My Sako hunter 75 is a great rifle. :D

200 yards, same hole. I think next time I am at the range and you are there, I would like to see you shooting. You should be able to teach me a few thing's.  :D

I can do pretty much the same thing with my customized Winchester M70 Stainless, but at 100 yards.  I have never tried it at 200 yards.

Still, even at 100 yards, I can get super tight almost-same-hole groups, but that's with a fully wrapped beach towel on my shoulder and just the first 3 shots.  After that, beach towel or not, the recoil causes my groups to open up a bit.

Then again, with a .375H&H, if you need more than 3 shots to take down an animal.....any animal.....then God help you! :)

I really like my Mauser 3000 in 375 H&H it is pictured with my 94 BB in 375 Winny.

The Mauser is just under 8lb.s scoped

I also like my Swedish Mauser in 9.3 X62 similar power with less recoil.

Love my SAKO.  Redhawk1 I've got the target I put three bullets thru one bullet hole at 200 yds. It amazing what a SAKO can do. I can't post it cause I don't have the stuff to do it with. :D

I traded my Sako 375 H&H to George the Taxidermist. He wanted a big bore and I had just bought my 2nd 416 Rigby. I do miss my Sako though.  :D

Hey buckeye, its 8 lbs scoped your 375 h&h ? how is the recoil on that, I still don't have a scope put it on it yet lol but I am planning on going to the range with it sometime next month, we'll see how the recoil handles, shouldn't be worse than my 300 RUM

Mine will certainly clean out you sinuses, esp. off the bench with 300gr.ers after 4 shots its no longer fun,I'd suggest bore sighting it first that will get you on the paper.
good luck !

Actually buckeye, my 375, after I mount the scope / rings on it, will weight just a little over 9 lbs.... and I am planning on using nothing but 260 grain federal nosler accubonds (those have the best ballistics out of all factory loads I looked at)..... Im hoping the recoil be around 40 ft-lbs or even less with that setup

I use the accubond 260 grain in my cz-550,I am sure it weighs a good deal more than nine pounds with the scope.Even with good handloads around 2800 fps the recoil is not bad at all.

Should be quite manageable, with the heft of the rifle and those lighter bullets, with the new high tech bullets you don't have to rely on increasing bullet weight to get the ever important penatration.
Myself I recently purchased a Win. model 70 in 270win.,I'm waiting for the guns arrival,24in. barreled with a synthetic stock ,the gun is several years old but it is NIB, just been setting in a gunstore gathering dust ,anyway back to lighter bullets ,I've been reading interesting stories about 130gr. high tech bullets ,A fellow I know swears by the 130 gr. Barnes  X bullet ,which with a 270 Win. he ,with one shot ,thru the shoulders quickly dispatched a 430 lb. Black Bear, just a few weeks ago. The bullet left quite a wound chanel,
A few years back I would have not considered at a 260gr. bullet in a 375 H&H for big game but not anymore.

That is one heck of a price!!!

I think that I bought mine for about $699 if I remember correctly, and that was about 3 years ago.
