Tikka T3 Lite Stainless or Browning A-Bolt Hunter?
« on: December 03, 2005, 03:48:46 PM »
I have narrowed my choices down to these two rifles. Which one is more accurate, more dependable, and better in price? Any opinions are welcome. The rifle will be used for deer hunting; mostly from a stand, but I may do some walking with it. I have also hunted in the rain. I also would like to target shoot someday. Oh, and scope suggestions are also welcome. Are the Tikka scope rings good enough?

Thanks,
-Jon C.

lol,,,
i have been on this same thinking experience for about the past month, finaly i got the tikka t3 lite in a 7mm-08,which was the caliber of choice between the 2 in the first place..
reason is i liked the browning alot but the tikka seemed to have a better trigger#1
the tikka was cheaper #2
and the tikka came with rings#3
and i have heard nothing but good from the 2,i just decided to go with the tikka.hope this helps... :-)

the scope rings are good, and its lighter for walking, and more wheather resistience with its stock...i am going to top it of with a bushnell 4200 2.5x10x50mm firefly, which will make a excellent set up...

WELL, I should probably mention this too. The Tikka will have to be shipped, so you add shipping and the FFL to the cost. It will end up being about 600 from 520 origionally. The store here carrying the Tikka wanted over 750 BUCKS for the rifle!! That is way above the retail. Of corse it was in 270 WSM, but the retail on it was only 725.  The Browning will be 590 + taxes.

both are good guns, as I've owned both, Tika in 22-250 and Browning in 25WSSM.

The only thing I didn't like about the Tika were the rings that came with it.  They are probably good, but I just didn't care for them.  Got a Weaver style base and put on it.

They are both fine guns, but I own a T3 Lite stainless.  Sako barrel, match grade trigger and the slickest action I've ever seen.  Good luck.

I recently found a used gun I like and wish to buy. The gun is a Browning 300 mag, stainless a-bolt, new in box, with leupold mounts, leupold scope Vari X III 6.5x20x50mm, for 850 BUCKS! If you ask me I think thats a hell of a price, but I also may not know much. This will be my first rifle. So, should I go with this deal or not because of the caliber? I was concidering a 30-06, what is the difference in recoil, price, ect..? This is the exact gun I would wish for if I could pick. Just caliber difference.

Should I buy that or Buy the new Tikka which will end up being about 600 bucks, and then I have to buy a scope?

End the end if i dont like the Browning, i could make money off it.

I would have to say; after owning both guns....the Tikka in .308 & .243 and a Stainless Stalker in .280....it would be a very tough choice.
IMHO the Tikka stock is rough compared to the Browning. The Browning is pillar bedded, free floated, and target crowned...feels more solid in the hands.
As much as I am pleased with the Tikkas I do not like the "newer" T-3 feel as much as the Browning. Certainly the Browning bolt action is more solid.
BTW the Browning trigger is easily adjusted down to 3lbs and less.

They both shoot well under MOA and will do the job.

I agree with Big Tom.  Both are great guns and you can't go wrong with either.  If I had to make the choice, however, I personally would get the Tikka.

Those Hornady LMs are excellent.  In my Tikka, I get sub MOA groups.  If I do my part, I can get half inch groups.
