I'm interesting in buying a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless. The store near me was selling me one for WELL over the retail. I was wondering if anyone has an online buying suggestion. Is buyinga gun online a good idea? How much does shipping cost on average? I was thinking about www.budsgunshop.com; they have one for $520-540. Does anyone have experience with them? Or does anyone have any other suggestion?

Just make sure to add in the costs of shipping and FFL fee to your cost online. You don't have to pay taxes though, so it may still save you some over just walking into any old gun shop.

you go to a gunshop and ask about it. basically they are receiving the gun for you because its illegal for a private citizen who does not have a Federal Firearms License to buy one through the mail.

he holds it for you and you go there to fill out the forms and such. you usually pay a fee to him for doing this for you. usually about $25. if it is more than $30 i would look for someone else.

You can use one of the online sources to find a local FFL transfer dealer, just plug in your zip code and look at the list, be sure to contact them and see what they actually charge AND if they're still in business. Here's one source...

No you are in effect buying it from a Federal Firearms Licensee, he buys it form another, who has bought it from it previous owner. At least that's the theory. :wink:
One thing I'd suggest is that if you buy from the auction sites is that you don't sign up for PayPal, somebody mined my data somewhere, and tapped me for about $100. :cry:
I now have a dedicated credit card that is used for online shopping only. I can spot an invalid transction immediately. It has fraud protection, so I can lose nothing.

My mom also had a fraud protection credit card. The problem is, the place you'r buying from must decide to check for fraud. At least thats what they told my mother. She was a victim of fraud; got her money back though.

But, back to subject. Im not using pay pal, I'm using my mothers credit card at the site listed above. The rifle will be right around 600 bucks, started out at 520, but shipping and FFL charge took its toll.

Be sure to add up everything - the price, shipping charges and the charge the FFL dealer will make for receiving the rifle. Then, shop around to see if there's a dealer in your area who will match or maybe beat that total. I've found that it is possible to match. The advantage of buying through the local dealer is if there's something wrong with the rifle when it comes in, the dealer can return it to the distributor for replacement and no charge.

I've had real good luck at gunbroker.com. You can't go wrong with the Tikkas. I have 3 of them and they are fantastic.
