Turkey day in Dec.

Well I finally got a turkey with my bow, actually got 2. []
Sorry it wasn't a lever gun kill but I'll take what I can get. []
Was waiting for a deer in my blind when a whole boatload of turkeys came by. They make a God awful rackett to be sure & even tho they spot me a hundred yards away if I'm in a tree they cant see you in a tent.
I waited for a clear shot at the biggest one I could see & whacked it. It flopped around for a few & died. The other turkeys just kinda looked at it & walked around waiting for it to get up I guess. That went on for the better part of an hour before they moved on but still wouldnt leave. They walked around me & started rooting around like nothing happened & since I had 2 tags I figured I'd try again. Well it worked twice but the second one was longer dieing & they attacked it. [:0] I ended up chasing them off as it didn't seem fair.
Anyhow I got a few pics if you care to look.




This place is on a resivior & I took these on the way out.


This ones another spot I bowhunt. My stand is 50 feet or so into the woods. You cant see them (least I cant) but theres 3 deer looking right at the camera.

You lucky dog. I bet I know what you are going to have for Christmas dinner. Good shootin and looks like a beautiful place to hunt. I couldn't see the dear either.Sometimes from the stories I have heard turkeys are so dumb.

I think theyre dumb. Alot of folks I talk too think different because they can be tough to get close to but I think they just react to what they see without thinking about it. A good survival tool for sure but it doersn't mean theyre smart. I'v killed many deer who were trying to figure out just what wasn't right that if they just left would still be chewing cud today. Turkeys are only as smart as they need to be & sometimes deer are too smart for their own good.
Wish I had my camera in the blind so I could of photografed them walking around talking to their dead friend & then later jumping & pecking at the second one still oblivious to the danger. I'v had deer stick around after taking one out with a bow & even got a second one a couple times but they knew something was up & were trying to figure it out.

I figured it out though.  those 3 deer are behind the camera!  :wink:

I dunno Dave theres alot more meat on a deer.    J/K actually I'm tickled. Had them around my blind last year so I bought tags this year & was starting to think I'd get skunked. The season ends Dec 31 here. We ate some breasts tonight & I'll eat some more.  :grin:  Little tough but my wife never cooked a wild turkey bird before & neither have I so theres some learning to be done. I'm tempted to smoke the rest honestly. Any recipies would be great.

The deer are there, they were to the right of the tree behind the reflector. I couldn't see them thru the viewfinder but after the pic they were still watching me. I took 3 out of there this fall so far & they know about me now.
The first couple times I spooked them out when going in & they came back. That dont work anymore    & I need to beat them which is tough as I cant see 50 feet in there from the ground & usually find out theyre there when they take off. To be honest, if left alone I'd stay away till mid January but the landowner wants them dead & if I'm not around I'll lose it. Its too hot a spot for that so I'm looking for a new angle. Thinking bout setting up a blind but cant find a spot I like.
