Ram Rod?
« on: November 29, 2005, 08:22:02 AM »
Anyone know were I can get a adapter to change this freak 8/32 into a 10/32 so it will actually work and clean and load a bullet. And if done will it still fit into the guns holder? What is H&R thinking when they built this thing? :gulp:

Yeah, from an engineering standpoint the ram rod is kinda cool!  But that is about where it ends...I especially like it when you put a patch on that beveled end and it binds up in the barrel!  I dont know if this helps, but I wento the hardware store (you know the ones with all the little nut and bolts etc in little draws) and bought a brass machine bolt of the right diameter and pitch.  Then I found a little brass knob, like the kind that holds a lamp shed on and put that on the bolt then threaded it into the rod.  That brass "knob" fits nicely in the bore and is shaped more like a jag.  I usually use the range rod to load with as I leave my truck in the AM.  Havent had to reload in the field yet.  They are a great rifle, MUCH better that the black diamond I owned.  3" groups at 100y with the fiber sights.  I shoot 240 XTP Mags with 90g APP FFG.

I totally agree, it should have been 10/32 from the start like T/C uses. Jack.

On 11/12 I tried to push a powerbelt through brush. The 10 point then walked out in the open and hung out as I reloaded. You should have seen me fumbling with that ram rod in the field. I got the 10 point, but next time I bring my range rod. I don't care if it hangs out my pack a bit. I don't do a lot of walking once I set up, so I'll lay the rod next to my huntsman!

tscott, get one of the T/C Universal Pack Rods.  Solid aluminum and comes in four pieces.  I carry mine either in my back vest pocket or in the bag for my ground blind.  Once I get set up I put it together and am set to go.  Works great.

I have a thread adapter made by traditions, it was sent to me with the gun from the mail  order company I got it from. I think it only cost $2.50.

Ramrod Adapter

Try www.midsouthshooterssupply.com

I just ordered four of number 001061345, Eastern Maine Shooting Supplies 8/32" male to 10/32" female brass adapter for myself.  At $1.41 each NEF should use them in the first place.

Bought them so my Powerbelt loading tip for aero tip bullets would screw onto it the stock ramrod.  Eastern Maine must be the name of the company who has taken over the Ox-Yoke business.  They are now selling the Wonder Wads, etc. with their name on the same label Ox-Yoke used to use.  Ox-Yoke used to make them but everyone is out of stock, probably because Ox-Yoke went out of business mid-summer.
Always need another gun.

Here is a direct link to the adapters. I just received a couple custom made jags that will load pointed bullets, run patches in and OUT with threads that will lock the ramrod in the closed position. I wonder if the adapter could be threaded to lock the ramrod in the collapsed position?
