Finally got the Handi in 17 Remington finished.  It is a SB2 frame with the plastic stock and a 22 inch 17 Mach2 barrel rechambered to 17 Rem and a straight taper from in front of the forearm to .550 at the muzzel.  This saved half a pound.  It has a 4 to 12 Swift AO scope on Burris Signature medium Z rings.  It weighs 7.5 pounds with the scope.  Hope this makes a nice Coyote rifle, I will shoot it this weekend if it is nice out.  The Breach shot shows the modified rimfire ejector.  Larry

I have been thinking of doing the same thing with my .17 HMR.  Please let us know how it performs at the range.

You deserve to be commended on how good that rifle looks after the rechamber/re-stencil/re-contour.  As Stimpy said, I hope it shoots as good as it looks!! :D

How much did it cost you to have the barrel re-blued?

The entire job cost me $135.00 for the work.  $45.00 for the re-chamber, and $90.00 for the turn down and re-blue, he will will either flute the barrel or contour and blue it for the same price.  I did the work on the extractor which was dead easy.  If you want one it is: The Island Smith 802-372-8812 or at http://www.vtgunsmiths.com

Well I did shoot a Sparrow at 100 yards with a 4,300fps 22-250 I had once, it probably had much the same results.   :lol: Larry

The ejector is the rimfire ejector modified, I have some pictures I will post tomorrow.  It has to be modified to be able to drop down a little to catch the grove in the rimless case, and about .015 inch removed from the rear of it, plus a little from the ejector shelf.  Not hard to do with hand tools, but it takes a little time.  Larry

What kind of load did you use. My 22-250 loads will push a 55 grain bullet to 3800 FPS. (To the same effect on birds.:twisted: ) I want to load 60 grain bullets to slow barrel wear by lowering the velocity.

I shot 37gr of IMR 3031 and Barnes 40gr VLC's.  I had a slow twist (1 in 17) 26 inch barrel, they actucally made about 4,350 with that load and barrel.  They shot great.  Larry

so my question to yu is this???? first ive longed for a 17 rem in anything for years and then i got took my are ol friend martys custom shop in tennn where i sent him the 150 for a 17 rem converstion and he skipped town on me an few other guys so my question is???? since id be starting out buyin everything from the 17 barrel then the cost of the work,,, how would yu compare this  to the 204 ruger ???thats out now inthe handi's . worth the extra? or not

I don't have a .204 ruger, so I can't really say.  I did the 17 Remington converson because I wanted a 17 remington, had a handi rifle in .223 to use and thought it would be fun to try.  Looks like it will work, but when you do things like this you will always have surprises and things to fix before it is right.  Cost is the Barrel plus $45.00 plus some work on the ejector.  Turning the barrel down or fluting it will add $90.00 with the re-blue.  Larry
