I was thinking that I see lots of different custom (semi-custom, home built, cool) ruger revolvers all around on different threads. Lets get them all together in one thread as a reference for those who are currently building or want to.

List:

The Specifications, materials, size, caliber, etc...
The Modifications ( if any).
Who built it?
Cost if relevant? for custom work.
Any other info you want to add.

In a week or three I hope to have a 44 flat top turned into something close to a TLA # 5. Cost may be as much as the original but I'll be able to load it in the normal way.

Does a stainless Super Single Six Bisley count?

This started out as a 5 1/2inch barreled SSS. I sent it to Dave Clements along with my Bisley gripframe. He fitted the gripframe for me and took off the warning information on the barrel.

I slicked up the action and re-timed it so it would not get the drag line around the cylinder. I added a Wolfe spring kit to lighten the trigger and hammer springs. It also has the heavier base pin retainer spring. I installed a Power Custom cylinder latch too.

I added the #5 base pin from Belt Mountain too. I also picked up a Qualite cresant head ejector rod and cam cut ejector rod housing.

To finish off the job, I need to add some custom grips. I am not sure what matterial I am going to use so for now I'll stick with factory stocks.

Here is one of my single action "belly" guns. Started as a standard Ruger Old Model 41 Remington Mag, manufactured 1967. Barrel shortened to 3 inches, brass insert for front sight, ejector rod and housing removed, factory grip replaced with brass framed birds head. Action cleaned up and tuned. Hammer jewelled.

This has been a work gun, carried for years and shows some wear. One of my favorites.

This started out as a regular Bisley .22lr and was cut down to 4 5/8 warning label removed, changed the springs, #5 Belt Mountain base pin, color case hardened by Turnbull Restorations and custom grips.

This one has never been fired. Not before the custom work or after. I need to remedy that!

This one started life with a 10 1/2" bbl. cut down to 4" and an action job that's smooth and silky breaking and 2 lbs. Grip frame rounded and some Hunter grips reshaped.

This is one of my favorite 'Woods guns'. It is a pre-warning Super Blackhawk done up by Mag-na-port before they started doing their 'Predator' series. 5" ported barrel with a c-more front sight. Polished to a super blue, it is really beautiful. The hamer and trigger were jeweled then gold plated as were several other small parts. It has been refitted with a fluted .44 Mag cylinder. Ken Kelly put a brass grip frame on it for me, (which was beautiful with the gold) but it usually wears a satin nickeled aluminum one for carrying as it is much lighter. I've been tempted several times to have him cut the barrel to 4" but have not done so 'yet' as it shoots great the way it is. 44 Man

Both are in .45 Colt and I have taken deer and hogs with both guns. The 4 5/8" model shoots the same loads a little slower but the animals hit do not seem to know the difference.

Hey Joe, thanks for the kind words. You know that gold is a mixed blessing. Yup, it's pretty, but it does wear. When you cock the hammer back there's some missing on the sides of the hammer where she rubs the frame. Yup, she's a 'working gun'. Get's carried a lot in an old Lawrence 'three persons' style holster that came with it. She happens to be wearing a set of stag grips today and is in the shooting box to go out in the woods deer hunting with me next week! Wish me luck. 44 Man

heres what i have for customs I dont know how to post pics and really dont want to learn how (computer illiterate) But if someone will post them for me ill email some to you. I have three by clements right now. An old model 3 screw .357 converted to 41mag with a two toned grip frame 4 5/8s barrel stag grips anohter one converted to .44 spec 4 inch roundbutted case hardened fancy walnuts. A 45 colt bisley vaquero barrel shortened to 4 5/8 case hardened and round butted french walnut by scott kolar. Im down to one linebaugh right now its my 4 inch round butted stailess bisley vaquero with ivory micras scrimshawed my Jim Taylors wife. Ive got a single six old model 22 coverted to .41 spec 5 shot 4 inch roundbutted by John Galagher. A couple semi customs like a accusprort .44 that has ivory micras a clemments sight belt mountain base pin and bowen rear sight. My .454 alaskan that has been slicked up and moonclipped. On the way are a .500 linebaugh by dustin linebaugh that will be a 4 inch round butted bisley vaquero oct barrel case hardened and have walnut grips by dustin. A 475 by an real craftsman that doesnt want advertisment that will be a 4 5/8s blued casehardened bisley vaquero. In rifles I have a 2506 that has a douglas barrel interarms action and one of the most beautiful french walnut stocks ive ever personaly saw. Rob Applegate is in the process of building me a marlin 94 in .475 linebaugh. I have a rossi 92 that reggie nonaman made into a .32 mag that clements is now converting to 3220 that has an oct barrel. IVe owned 3 other linebaughs a .475 and two other .500 that I should never have gotten rid of. Thats about it for customs at least thats all that i can think of right now. As you can probably figure my favorite guns are the short barreled bisley vaqueros. Only problem is i cant leave them alone i dont have a factory stock one left every one i get just becomes a canvas for something i really want.

Here is Lloyd's pictures-

Top to bottom; Clements .41 mag, .44spec, and a .45colt

Old .475 and old 500.

A Clements .45 lightweight Vaquero .45 aluminum grip frame and ejector rod housing, drift adjustable front sight, stag grips, and 4 inch barrel.

This is a stainless 500 Linebaugh that John built. This one is in Taffins new book but he made a mistake and said the Clemments built it.

The top is a two toned Single Six bottom is a two toned Bisley Single Six with Scott Kolar burl buckeye grips.

This is another 500. This one a 4 5/8s gun with Scott Kolar french walnut.

like i said guys the 3 blued linebaugh guns are history. Been sold or traded but two replacement one in 475 and one in 500 are on the way. I love my 500 vaquero so much that im having both built on vaqueros.

Here's a couple. A slightly tweaked 45 SS Acusport Bisley. Above it a modified 45 Bisquero. Also, to the right a couple of unmodified OM 45's that just happen to be in the photo.

Next is a 44 Special on an OM 357.

And the finished OM SBH seen "in the white" in the above photo. It was a real beater when I bought it.

Here is my chopped Super Blackhawk. It was a 10inch gun. Now it has had the script removed and shortened to 4 5/8ths inch. I added a Beltmountain #5 base pin, Wolf Springs, stag grips and re-timed it to cut down on the drag line on the cylinder.

The only thing wrong with this gun is that I do not shoot it enough....

Super-sized Blackhawk. Here are the details of the modifications.

Bowen Classic Arms installed a custom front sight and rear sight about 7 years before the other work.

Clements Custom:

Custom fit SBH 44 mag cylinder rechambered-linebored to 45 colt
Set barrel-cylinder gap
11 degree forcing cone
Fit SBH hammer
Removed Ruger barrel warning
Bead blast finsh

Other work:

Fitted Hogue Black Micarta grips
Action work
