I just got a 24" .243 Encore factory barrel, my first rifle barrel for the Encore. I'm shooting all handloads, and the groups are almost all vertical, anywhere from 1 1/4" to 4-5". I've free-floated the forend with neoprene washers and it's a clean barrel. This occurs with 100 gr., 55 gr, and 68 gr, (all the weights I've tried so far) The only one that hasn't vertically strung is 53 gr. H380 and a 55 gr. Nosler Ballistic tip. The scope seems to be fine, it adjust well and is holding zero, so I'm assuming it's not the scope (Simmons 3-9x40). Any tips would be helpful.

Let the barrel cool down in between your shots and then see what your groups do for you.

I would first suspect the scope is slipping back thru the rings....check that and the mounts again.

Not if it is stringing shots up to 5"

Another thought....how are you setting up the gun to shoot. Bags or bipod or gun rest ? From past experience for the best accuracy my TCs shot best groups off bags up close to the trigger guard.

Is it stringing up or down? Does it start high and progressively move lower or the other way around? What type of stock do you have?

It's vertical stringing, not consistently just up, but definitely vertical. Most groups are 1 1/2" vertical strings, but without stringing they would be cloverleafs. I'll know more after Thanksgiving, I plan on my next round of load development to be shot that weekend. Thanks for the tips, I checked and I can't tell the scope is slipping, I've had that problem before.
