I had decided I wanted a S&W Mountain Gun, I just liked the way it felt in the hand.  I was looking for a 686, but decided the Mountain Gun would be better since the weight is about the same even though the frame is a little bigger (plus I think that the 357 Mag is a nasty shooting round for what it is).  Thought about the 44, but thought the recoil would be unpleasant even though you could shoot the 44 specials.  Thought about the 41 they are making this year, but it is blue only.  I love the 41 enough to overlook the blue finish, but I already have a few 41's.  The 45LC they are making this year interested me but it was blue only.  Thought the 45LC would be pleasant to shoot and will stop anything I need to stop with standard loaded rounds (which means I do not need a Ruger).  I then  found a 625 Mountain Gun that had only been shot 6 times.  It was from the one year run a few years ago and did not even have the lock on it.  I finally found the answer.  I shot it this weekend and it shoots great and feels really good in the hand.  I might just keep this one for a while.

I almost forgot the main reason for buying a 45LC.  I had a die set that I had not used for a couple years since I sold my last 45LC!! :)

You guys are not alone...I once bought a K frame snubby because I had the holster.

Once I bought a M64 because I had the Box.

I have dies, new brass and bullets for a 32 S&W Long, but no gun yet...still looking.

It may be cart before the horse but at least it is moving forward.

I think you shoot Contenders, from seeing other posts of yours.  The TCA barrel this quarter is a 10" hi-luster blue Contender barrel with sights in 32 S&W Long.  Priced at $225.

Bullseye, you bought a gun I have always lusted after, but could never find a good enough excuse to buy.   I think they're gorgeous, they feel good, they shoot well...........what's not to like?  I always told myself if I ever got into pin shooting I'd "need" one  :roll:  but I did, and I use my 40S&W for it, the only revolvers I shoot at pins are my duty gun and my pillow gun.  Besides, as bad as I got addicted to pin shooting, if I had the 625 it'd just be that much worse, and my component budget is already pretty............. ummazing.   It doesn't need any more mouths to feed!

Enjoy that new Smith, sounds like you got a keeper!   :D

My only Mountain Gun is a 625 in 45 Colt. I love this revolver and it is very satisfying to shoot. Your's quite likely will become one of your favorites too.

I harvested an 8 point buck with my 657 mountain gun last Sunday.

Love this N frame.

I traded for a 629-4 M/G a few years back. I don't find the recoil as bad as some posters say it is. It has become one of my favorite carry guns.

I swapped off a 629 to get a model 57 back again.I grew tired of all the BLAST from the mighty .44 Mag. and could NOT get that puppy to group well no matter what hand load I tried in it. I love the .41 caliber and can get smaller ten ring scores with it as well. I do not own any mountain guns but swing towards the older stuff. here is a image of the model 57 No dash I have. Can you believe buying a pistol because you own a set of dies to reload the ammo it shoots?
