Hey Paul,
I've been trying to get hold of one for 6 months now. I believe that they are not yet available to order from Savage yet, so my retailer tells me. Seen plenty of writeups, all positive, including Jeff Quin, which was good.

I enquired of Jeff and he told me that 'they are in production',
so shouldn't be too long.
Model40 looks like a good buy. I already have a BRNO Fox 2 in .22H, with a stuffed barrel, but still shoots good with the right fodder. (35grV-Max), so the '40' should do even better with maybe the 40gr Noslers as well. (They're too long for the BRNO mag).

I think it's just stupid they only offer it in 22Hornet. I'm not trashing the Hornet, just saying bringing back this model in 223 would be a good move in my opinion.

Possibly a pressure/litigation issue with 'hot' handloads in cartridges with a greater capacity than the .22H.

While billed as a 'budget priced' and 'value' rifle,

it has been called by Savage a 'rimfire on steroids', and is a rear locker.

I would have thought that it could also be offered as a .222

Most European manufacturers have offered their 'super' rear lockers as .22H, and some even in .222, but none in .223 that I am aware of.

Talked to Savage today---they said they had shipped a batch in Oct. Called two dealers one said none had came down to him the other gave me a big song and dance, that they wouldn't be out till next year. I suppose I will just  see what happens. Sure would like to try one.

I saw one is the local gun store about a month or so ago.  It came with the accu-trigger, semi-beavertail fore end. Really comfortable rifle.  It was on the rimfire frame, and that was part of the reason that I didn't want to pick it up.  It was a nice looking rifle, and if I rember correctly was right around $300 give or take about 10.

I was excited about this rifle when I first heard about it. At that time, it was rumored that it would come in .223 or .22 Hornet. More recently, I've seen reports that the action is barely strong enough for the stock Hornet and not suitable for modification to the K Hornet. Savage builds some nice .223s on their old short action. Now I'm thinking that would be a better way to go as I would prefer the .223.

i know a guy who has one, and i saw one at the gunshop yesterday, so i know for a fact that they are shipping.

i had a savage model 93 in .17HMR and it is the exact same gun as far as i can tell...makes me a little afraid to shoot a .223 on the same action.

According to the folks at Savageshooters, the 40 is a 93 action as was previously mentioned. Also mentioned here and at Savageshooters, no KHornets for the 40.

Despite these things, the 40 is on my want list as well as a 221 Fireball. I have a model 93 in 22Mag that is quite a shooter and expect the same to be true of the 40.

Anyone know the SAAMI pressure numbers for the Hornet and the 22Mag?
How close to the edge are they? Quite far I would guess but just curious.I think the Fireball runs about 55,000 psi which leaves it out of the 93 action.

I have given up on this pretty little gun. I finly got my hands one one other day and the bolt was rather rough just didn't like the fill of it. I am now looking at something else. I do like my Savages have one in a 204 that is a real nail driver. At least this was a dream for awhile.

New gun price out the door was $389.00. In talking to dealers prices ranged all the way up to $450.00 (not out the door) if could be found. It blows my mind how in the same area prices can vary that much.

Thank you Paul, still shopping around for the next gun. Hoping to find a Low-Wall but that's not an easy find either.

Plenty of time to save for the next one... Saving those pennies and nickels.
