Tikka T3 Lite - Scope Mount Question
« on: November 01, 2005, 12:17:53 PM »
Thinking of buying a T3 in .270...

I just started looking at these rifles and have a question on the scope mounts.  Will the factory mounts accept a 50mm obj scope?  I am partial to Leupold and have a 3x9x50 ready to slap on a T3 if I make this purchase.  It looks like you are stuck with the factory rings with the unique mounting system on the tikka?

Thanks!

Mine would not. The scope was a Leupold v-III 4.5X15.  It would almost fit . If I could have had 1/2" more room to move forward it would have cleared the barrel. I even tried some spacer under the scope but that didn't work either. I was afraid to put too much under the scope, so I just went to a smaller objective lens scope.

Thanks for the reply.  That's what I was afraid of.  Are you basically stuck with the factory ring/mount system or is there anything aftermarket that you can use?

Tikka Dovetails
« Reply #3 on: November 02, 2005, 03:12:12 AM »
Seminole,

There are aftermarket rings available, for the Tikka Dovetails.
I have Warne Maxima rings on my Tikka, since the factory
rings didn't work on my 50mm objective scope.  As I recall,
the Warne Maxima rings, for the Tikka, were hard to find, but they
are out there.  I think I got the "High" size, but it is a very tight
fit, with the 50mm Mueller Sport dot scope.  If I were to do this again,
I would opt for the "Extra High" Warne rings.

So there are options besides the factory rings, for the dovetail
mount.  If my memory isn't totally shot, I also remember mounting
holes, plugged with screws, for Weaver bases, on my T-3.  But
mechanically, I believe the dovetail mounting system is superior
to the Weaver style, if for no other reason is there is fewer
mechanical connections involved in mounting the scope.

When I bought my Tikka t3 lite in .30-06 I asked about scope mounting options and a lot of people recommended these (Talley light weights.) Midway only has them in low and medium, maybe thats all Talley makes them in. They may not work for a 50mm, I don't know.

The factory rings allow you to mount a scope with a 42mm objective or smaller. The gunsmith at the gun shop I bought the rifle from said the rings that came with it were fine. So I tried them and after a 100 rounds or so all is great. My scope is a 3-10x40 Weaver Grand Slam.

I have 2 Tikka t-3's and I used the supplied rings (those talley's look interesting though), and they work great.  I mounted a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 on both and it does work with the factory rings.  By the way, it's an awesome scope.

Cool thanks for the info. it's nice to know I can get a 44mm if I ever want to. I could have swore I read in the owners manual or somewhere that the max was 42mm, oh well.
Yes that scope is sweet I looked through one when I was shopping for mine. Every time I looked through the scope it was like someone just turned on the lights. Only problem was it was Toooo many $$$$$$'s 4 me!

By the way I really like the Grand Slam I have on it. For the money I think it's the best one out there (MPO).

Leupold makes bases and rings for the tikka 3. This will give you a variety of choices for any scope. I used them to mount a 30mm nikon with a 56mm objective on a t-3 270wsm. This is not my favorite rifle but it runs a close second for what I want.

hey
i have a tikka t3 lite in 300 wsm and it wears a zeiss 3.5x10x50 mm
in the factory rings  this is a magnum caliber rifle and i was able to set the eye relief up for myself with this setup but just barely
it works for me and the scope does not touch the barrel at all
if i did it again i would go to high rings but with the zeiss the mediums are fine

I have a set of Talley's and they work well...Tikka also has better rings...I cannot recall the name...opti-lok I believe...do a search for "tikka" on ebay and you will find those rings.
