Freedom Arms Rosewood Grip blanks
« on: October 28, 2005, 01:42:05 PM »
Has anyone purchased a set of the over fitted rosewood blanks for our revolvers?

How much is involved with the fitting and what was your outcome?

I imagine that I will be shaping slowly and installing frequently to get the shape correct with the grip frame.

I don't want to part with the gun to send it off and the thought of shaping my own grips has me intrigued.

What say you Freedom Arms Owners?

Tecrsq, I don't have the answer you're looking for. Sorry. I'll be interested in the replies that do come in though.

But let me take it a step further. Has anyone tried making grips from scratch? What wood did you choose? What problems did you have? How did they finally turn out ( pictures please )?

I did buy a set of the oversize blanks and fit them myself , As you think if you go slow and keep testing the fit they will come out perfect . I am planing to make some grips this winter , I am going to try using some black  Corian . There are several grip makers using corian , I you try the color butter It appears very close to aged Ivory I belive . If you call Freedom arms for a set of grips have your serial number handy as they changed the grip frame at the point when they changed from a nut holding the main spring in place .

I bought a set of the oversized grips from FA for my 83.

If you take your time they will come out perfect.

Where to get the grips

You can purchase the from Freedom Arms.

I believe they are around 45 or 50 bucks and they are overfitted, allowing you to take them down to custom fit your frame.

You will need to let them know your serial # as there are a couple variations in frames over the years.
