Should I swap barrels in my Mak to 380?
« on: October 27, 2005, 06:57:01 PM »
I have a couple 380's and wonder if I should swap out the barrel in my Makarov from 9x18 to 380auto for commonality and safety?
Would I loose or gain performance? ( I previously thought the 9x18 was hotter, but wonder now and the 380 has +P available)
It is an East German model.

Safety???  What is unsafe about 9MM Mak ammo? unless you think you might get it mixed up with the 380 ammo?

9mm Russian ammo is slightly more powerful than 380.  I don't use +p ammo in my 380's as I don't feel the need to hot rod my guns.

Your gun will feed cheap commie Wolf or Silver Bear ammo at half the cost of 380 ammo.

An East German model which is one of the more desirable versions of the Mak.  LEAVE IT ALONE.

This is my opinion.  Your opinion may vary

I'll keep the stock barrel.
Was worried about possible ammo mix up and having to store them.
Maybe the 380's will go?
