Unusual Eggs!!
« on: October 23, 2005, 12:46:20 PM »
A few days ago, a lady from Janesport, Mo. found a nest containing 200
eggs (she counted them) a little smaller than a pingpong balls. They were pink. The shells were not as hard as a chicken egg, but weren`t soft ether.
She called the Game Warden, and he gathered them up and took them with him. He wouldn`t give her any info on what they were. (ether didn`t know, or didn`t want to tell) Does anybody know what they might be?  :?

The 200 of them is a problem. I can find a few different birds and such that lay pink eggs. However with 200 eggs it is not a bird.

How about a picture of them ?

Was that Janesport or Jamesport?

I live in central Mo and hadn't heard of Janesport.

It sounds like turtle eggs but I don't think we have turtles large enough to lay 200 eggs that size.

Nonya is correct, the description matches turtle eggs, but the count is pretty high.  My guess is an alligator snapping turtle, which lay eggs about the size of pingpong balls, but clutches usually number up to 50 eggs.....perhaps it was a really big female.

Was the nest in a tree,on the ground ,or in a hole? Could be wrong as I don't know that much about all turtles in general, but I thought turtles dig holes ,lay, then cover, and such a large number of eggs. :?   Interesting! Would like to find out more!

The eggs were found on the ground.  ( In the womans yard.) Let me know how to post the picture.
