How to sell a rifle?
« on: October 18, 2005, 05:07:11 AM »
I have a rifle that I no longer have a use for and I'd like to sell it. What's the best way?

The rifle is a CZ 550 .270 with factory rings, a 6x-24x scope, and a bipod. Should I sell it as a package or should I just sell the rifle without the accessories?

Can't imagine a lot of folks wanting a 6-24 scope on a .270. I'd offer it as a package or split with separate pricing on the scope. Chances are you can move it here on the GBO classifieds as long as your pricing is reasonable.

Guns no longer sell on ebay but scopes do and often there folks will actually pay more than they can buy it for new on a used item. Obviously not an informed buyer but they are there. They aren't here for the most part tho.

Thanks for the insight. The scope on this rifle is one I bought for a .223 for my son to use, but I found that the 3-9x Leupold I originally had on the .270 was easier for my son to use because of more generous eye relief.  The 6-24x is one of those $75 Tascos. It works, but agree it's a mismatch for the .270.  As-is, the rifle is a pronghorn and mule deer rig and at 6x the scope is pretty darned good and includes a mil-dot reticle.

Not sure where to start with prices, but I'll try to sell it as a package to a gun buff looking for such a rig. I'd also include RCBS dies, some bullets, and about 100 cases of relatively new brass.

I'll stew on this and see if I can figure out a fair price.

I'd take it to a smith and have him stamp the word "magnum" some where on it...........that would make it a lot easier to sell! :D

Hey, stamp something like "short magnum, supershort magnum, or ultra magnum" on it, and it will sell it in a  New York minute. Better yet, put some decent glass on it and just keep it!
My :money: , and worth ten times what you paid for it.

Put a sign with the price on a pencil. Stick the pencil in the muzzle. Go to a gunshow. Sling the rifle on your shoulder and walk up ane down the aisles.
