Tracker .22 Disappointment

Bought a new in the box Tracker .22 revolver, 7-shot, this past Wed., 10/13; returned it to the factory today (10-17) without firing a round thru it. Cylinder does not lock up (out of time), feels as if gravel is between the cylinder and extractor rod (turn the cylinder and will barely turn and very rough), takes both hands to cock it single action the cylinder binds so bad, and last, but not least, feels like about a 25 lb double action, give or take 10 lbs. PITIFUL!!!!!
Costs me $38 to send it back. Hope it gets lost by UPS or whoever; I insured it for $300 and would rather have the money. Advised Taurus in my letter that I hoped that their customer service was not as lousy as their quality in this firearm. Should have taken heed of other posts I read about Taurus quality, but just had to have one. This will be the last Taurus firearm I ever buy. Will gladly give an extra $300 next time for a S&W 617.

First off Welcome to GrayBeards.
Though I am sorry it's on such terms. I hate to hear about your bad experiance and that a lemon slipped through the cracks. Hope it comes back to you and shoots better than any 22 you have my friend.
All past experiance with Taurus for me has been favorable. Always shot well.

They are not all bad. I just got on in 22 magnum. It has a rotten double action pull but the single action pull is acceptable. Just a little harder than I personal like. Now about accuracy. I scoped mine. I did not use that piece of junk taurus mount. I took a smith and wesson mount that fits there 686 and 629. If you turn it backwards and set it on the taurus rib it fits perfectly. I then clamped it in place and drilled two holes through the rib. I tapped them with a 6/32 tap. I screwed it on tight and it worked PERFECT. It is a $10 mounting job.  Easy to do at home. Dont need a gunsmith. This is the very first time I have attempted something like this. Anyway-- with a thompson center 2.5x7 pistol scope mounted I went to the range. The results were:  Winchester 40gr jacketed hollow point shot a beautiful 1.6 inch 7 shot group{50 yards}. It was a nice round group with only one flier. It would have been 1.3 inch group without that shot. This really suprized me. I had read test on this gun from gun writers. They all said the 40 gr winchester shot over 2.5 inches in there guns at 25 yards. Yes they had a leopuld pistol scope on there gun for testing. The also said the premium lightwieght 34gr stuff shot best in there gun. I shot like crap in my gun. It went around 4 inches at 50 yards. I love the winchester 40gr jacket hollow point. I have used it exclusivly for 23 years. I always have good luck with it and it kills what I shoot with it. I was looking at a smith revolver in 22mag the same day. But I saved $300 by getting the 971 taurus. I am a happy camper with mine. It will be wearing a millet red dot very soon.

Received the .22 Tracker back from Taurus this week (4 weeks at factory). Work order says 'Yoke adjusted"; no other explanation. No change in gun; cylinder still binds (I believe even worse that when I sent it) and two cylinder notches out of time. As I mentioned in my original post, this gun is PITIFUL!! I don't think Taurus did anything to it; probably said "send it back to the hick, he won't know the difference." Wrote Taurus a letter and advised them of my dissatisfaction and disappointment. Also told them I expected my $38.00 shipping costs back within a month. Sold it to one of my buddies "as is" for a Spyderco Military knife (new in box) and a Cold Steel Master Hunter (new in box) and he gave me $150 boot. As I said earlier, I'll never buy another Taurus and all of my law-enforcement and hunting buddies will hear of this one. If anyone has a good Taurus, you are lucky. I'll stick to S&W and Ruger from now on.

Thats to bad it came back to you like that. Mine is performing well right now but after reading the post on trackers I wonder how long it will stay working. I am not a heavy use person. More casual use than hunting. I am getting such good results right now I hope it stays that way. I will be keeping my eye on it though. Looking for the start of any problems. And thanks to whomever for bleeping out my word describing how 34gr 22mag rounds shot out of mine. I will watch the lanquage.
