338 RUM shoots Noslers

I shot my 338 RUM at phone books yesterday using Noslers 250gr bullets and that bullet mushroomed beatifuly at 3000 fps. It went threw 7 1/2  phone books that were dry. Ever try that? :D

At what distance was the impact shot?  Nosler partitions are designed (at closer distances) to expand the front half that eventually separates, leaving the rear half as a mini-solid to penetrate.  I'm surprised that your 250 grain partition mushroomed beautifully after penetrating over 7 phone books.

Zachary,  I shot those at 50 yds. Seems a little close doesn't it? They held together. I even weighted it and it weighted 165gr so it lost 15 grs. But thats still good I think so anyway. :D

I'm a little confused.  In your first post you said that the Noslers out of your .338RUM were 250 grain, then in your subsequent post you said that the recovered bullet weighed 165 grains, losing only 15 grains, meaning that the total was 180 grains, and thus not 250 grains.  Am I missing something? :?

I guess I made a mistake. It was a 250gr partition and what was left after going threw the phone books was 165grs so it lost 85grs. Thats about one third weight it lost. I guess thats alot. I was with a group of men bear hunting and one guy got his bear with a 300 Win mag shooting a 150gr bullet. What was left of that bullet was the shell, no lead, but the bear was dead. He shot it threw the shoulder [bone] and the bone and lead went to the heart.
So 165gr might not be to bad. What do you think? :D
