Ives Blackpowder Toy Cannon
« on: October 12, 2005, 03:08:34 PM »
Here is one of my favorite blackpowder toy cannons. I am 99% certain this was made by Ives and Blakeslee in the 1880's. It is overall 10.5" long and has a 7" barrel with a 1/2 inch bore. The barrel is very thick and heavy and I am not sure if it is brass or bronze because it appears different than most of the other brass barrels I have in my collection. It has a very soft smooth golden  appearance.
The six-spoke wheels are 4.5" and the trail is very decorative.
It has a flower design on the end and scalloping over the trunnions.
If anyone has an idea what the barrel is made from please let me know.
This one will see some action soon......

Nice gun! Is the tail cast in two halfs? It looks like there is a rivet or something holding the end of the tail togather. The barrel looks like yellow brass mabe? It should polish nice  I like the decorations.
