I just picked up my CZ 550 Safari Magnum 416 Rigby :)
« on: October 11, 2005, 04:52:40 PM »
Well I just picked up my CZ 550 Safari Magnum 416 Rigby. It is a very good looking gun. It has the humpback stock and the wood looks real good. Heavy, but needs to be. I just mounted a Leupold Vari XIII 1.5X5X20mm on it and bore sighted it. I will have to wait tell I get back from my bear hunt to Maine to go shoot it. Leaving Sunday.  :-D  :D

I hope the rifle and scope serve you well. I see your rifle has one crossbolt. My brother's CZ 550 in 9.3x62 has two of them and the American style stock in the same caliber has none. You might consider a good glassbedding job. These CZs are fantastic rifles. Mine is in 7x57mm and a 527 in .223 Remington. Both are sub half minute of angle rifles. Good luck on your bear hunt. I spoke with that gunsmith at the shop that I got the gun from and he did not think it needed a double crossbolt. He was not sure about needed glassbedding either. I will take it to another gunsmith and see what he thinks.

I hope I have luck with my bear hunt. I am looking forward to a full body mount if I am successful in getting a bear. i already have a bear skin rug.  :D

 Redhawk1: For me, glassbedding is just something I do because even the best of factory mass-produced rifles can, and do, have problems so glassbedding just takes out all second-guessing. By all means, shoot the thing first. My CZ 550 American in 7x57mm was an inch and one-half grouping rifle with 160 grain bullets. I glassbedded the action area and the first inch and one-half of the barrel, freefloated the barrel the rest of the way and now have a rifle which will put three shots into a half-inch or less group. My brother ows a CZ 550 Full Stock in 7x57mm and his, with proper handloads, will put three 160 grain Nosler Partition slugs into a .75 inch group at 100 yards. What's more, there is no glassbedding on his rifle. Again, by all means, see how she shoots first. My brother went bear hunting iin Northern New Mexico a few years ago and shot a black bear. His then father-in-law had a full-body mount done, with the bear climbing over a fake, fiberglass rock. It is one impressive piece of work to say the least. Anyway, once again, good  luck. Congrats on the rifle!! Sounds like a nice one and you sure topped it with a very nice piece of glass.  I can't wait to hear the range report.
Good luck on your bear hunt you lucky dog. I have always wanted to do a bear hunt and hope to within the next two years. Take some pics and share them with us.

Have fun

You got a great price on them. I paid $820 from mine and it is the humpback stock.  :D

Hi All,

The "humped back stock" as you call it is known as a "Hogsback" here but in fact it's really a "Tyrolean or Bavarian" stock How about some pictures of these new aquisitions then?

I purchased my New CZ550 Safari Magnum in 458 Lott for $640 and change  :-) ...I intended on buying the 375 H&H, but the local gunshop said that would be almost $200 more.
Seems they were trying to unload the 458 due to few Michigan Deer Hunters wanting one.  :-D
Go MAGNUM/MAX LOAD or GO HOME !
Always use MUCH more gun than the minimum required to do the job.
Recoil is your FRIEND...It lets you know you are using something WORTHWHILE !
