A good choice.  I like a tang for the longer sight distance, but the receiver mount works also.  I gave up on and gave away a Fire Sight.  Found I could see the regular front sight post better if I put a dab of white nail polish on it than I could see the Fire Sight.

Get a Lyman, Marbles, Redfied, or Williams micrometer receiver sight.  Install it on the side of the receiver.  Remove the disk and put it away.  Use only the remaining hole as your "peep".  The disk is useless for hunting.  You now have a "Ghost Ring" rear sight.

Got to jump in again on this one.  If you change you mind and get a receiver sight other than a Ghost Ring, the proper aperture size is determined by the amount of light you are shooting in and your pupil size.  In bright daylight, go smaller.  At dusk, as stated above, take it out.

Please jump in as much as you want castaway. It is your post that steered me to look at other brands and types of sights.  Thanks

What about just replacing the rear sight with one of these:

Each to their own I guess, but to me, the one ragged hole site, is just an old fashioned buckhorn sight, with the top closed.
It doesn't have the eye centering ability of the peep, because it isn't close enough to the eye, and it doesn't have the added sight radius of a good peep or tang sight either..

I'm with you, John Y.............I think a receiver sight such as the Williams FP I have on my 1892 gives a much better sight radius, & picture, as well. Just my 2 cents...........make it 3-1/2, adjusted for inflation! JD45

This isn't much of a change but, this is my experience. I have owned the same Model 94 since it was bought new in 1957. I have used several peep sights liking the Lyman the best and countless front sights both commercial and made in my shop. They have ranged from beads to posts, brass to painted stripes, you name it. As time went on (I'm 56 now) I also bought a Model 92 in 357 mag and a year or so ago a Marlin 1895 cb in 45-70. With the brass beads on these rifles appearing and disappearing depending on the available light and terrian at the time I replaced both (front sights)with Hi-viz sights. Problem solved on both rifles. They became my favorite rifles depending on what I was hunting and the old 94 30-30 languished in the safe until it dawned on me. I was expecting too much out of the 94. I put the old original rear sight back on and a Hi-viz on the front. It is impossible to have a perfect sight picture with a open rear and front sight being clear at the same time. How did I forget that? But at 56 even though my eyes aren't what they used to be I am again using the old reliable 30-30 for what it was intended. Not a tack driver, but a rifle with quick pointability and fast follow up shots at a hundred yards or so. You have a seven inch or so circle to play with when shooting at the vitals. But that's just me.
