Front sight help
« on: October 09, 2005, 02:50:23 PM »
Hey folks, I picked up a real nice custom mauser that has a front sight that I cannot find a replacement for. It does not have a dove tail it loads from the front. Someone suggested it was a caterpiller style sight but I cannot find anything about these sights.

I have seen this before on a cherry MAS Mauser 22 I had years back.

Any help locating one would be great.

norville,

I believe your site is a one piece site that is sweated in place. The grooves on the side are for a hood. If you take the gun to a smith a new one can be installed.

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.

hi There,

I have a custom rifle with a similar fore sight, the blades come in different heights to allow for regulation. Sorry but I do not know who supplied mine as it was fitted by the maker which I am led to believe is no longer trading   which is a real shame as it is a beautiful rifle. You might contact some custom builders and see if they cannot help indentify it, of have you tried Brownells?

Thanks, I tried brownells but I get like 1000 hits for front sight.  I stopped by the local gunshop he had on in an old cigar box.  I'll have to shoot it to see where it's at or and either keep looking or find a load that fits.

Even after this I'm really tempted to scope it.
