recommend scope for CZ Scout?
« on: October 06, 2005, 07:49:24 AM »
I have one of the youth size CZ Scout 22 lr.  Great little rifle but I need a scope for it.

This gun is about all my 7 yr old can handle so I'm looking for a small, light, reasonably bright  and durable scope to put on it.

I have a Beeman SS1 2.5 x on it now and its about as small as they get  (6 inches) but its too dark for some of our woods hunting.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

I'm not sure what your price range is or if you like to put optics on your rifles that cost as much if not more than the rifle itself but here is what I like to use.
I have had nothing but good luck out of the Bushnell Banner line of scopes. I think they are plenty clear enough for all of my hunting needs. I have scoped every rifle and shotgun I own with the Banner scopes and will not use anything else because I feel I get a great scope for the money spent.
Here are the weight and dimension of the scope for the link below
Length: 10.8 "
Weight: 12.1ounces

I know you can buy better but for probably a lot more money. I'm sure there will be others to give their opinions soon. You might even post this in the optics forum where there are people that know their scopes better than I do. Best of luck to you.  :D

If your looking for a high end scope then check out this Burris. It's pretty small & light and might be what your looking for. Natchez has it for a little cheaper but this link shows all the specs.

I bought three of the scouts last year for each one of my girls. The scope I chose to put on their rifles is the Bushnell 4x32 rimfire scope. Bright and clear optics and was under $30.00. Has held zero for around 4000 rounds each. They use the rifles for hunting and they also shoot on our 4-H rifle team. Great guns for the jr. scope class. Very accurate with the correct ammo also. Ely practice and Wolf match.

Well I wore out SWFA's web site looking at scopes.  Finally ordered a Simmons Prosport 1.5-5 truplex shotgun scope.  Its only 9 in long and 9.3 oz and moderate price.  I'm expecting it will be tougher than the rimfire scopes and its about as small as I could find without going into the $200+ range or the ultra cheap no name stuff.  Weight is critical right now though Ben was able carry the unscoped gun for a 2 mile stroll over boggy tundra the other day.  Parts are a miserable walk without any gun in hand.

Also, I might try it out on other centerfire guns now and then.

Now Dave tells me they are back ordered.  Oh well, I'll just wait, the weather is getting nasty and I think our tundra walks will be fewer in the next weeks.

Thanks for the advice folks.  My #2 pick was the Bushnell Banner 1.75-4.5 but its 1.5 inches longer and 2 ounces heavier.

Any comments about that Simmons? I could stop the order if its a poor choice.  Thanks.

Love that little CZ!

SWFA hasn't received any of the Simmons Prosport scopes from the maker yet and doesn't know when they will.

I'm eager to try a scope on this little Scout, so I'll shuffle some of my other scopes around and get something on the CZ.  Maybe an older Weaver 2.5 for now.

That way I can keep driving myself nuts combing SWFA's site, their Sample List, GB's Classifieds, and EBay for a hot deal.
