Can anyone shed some light on McMillan rifles. I am very interested in their Outdoorsman 30-378. Are these made from the action up by McBros or do they use other factory parts. Are they over priced or are you getting what you pay for.

I would call McM directly and ask then all the questions you have.  You can build a custom rifle cheaper but it all depends on how much you are willing to spend.   McM fit and finish is top notch and their rifles are built for optimum precision.

I would have no problem owning / shooting a McM rifle, but it depends on how much you want to spend and what your looking for.

I did plan on calling them at some point.

I know very little about custom rifles and invite any ideas. I am exploring different options trying to learn as much as I can. I want to do it right the first time. Paying more for something that will make a noticeable difference would be worth it to me.

I do know I want a rifle that will shoot very accurate at 500+. Something I can shoot alot and will hold up to bang around hunting conditions. The calibers I am considering are 30-378 and 300 ultra. I was really set on the 30-378 but I am afraid of the cost for brass.

Here is their site with the gun you want in the caliber you are asking for:

look around and see if the cost is worth your dream.

I dont know much about the hunter, But the tactical with the Rem 700 in .308 is what the Marine Snipers have been useing for a while and they shoot people all the time out to 1,000 meters. If they build the hunter as nice as the tac I would say 500 meters is no problem
