Stevens 200 extrator problems.
« on: September 25, 2005, 04:09:07 PM »
Just bought a new Stevens 200 yesterday in .223.  Mounted a 3.5x10
Leo on it and went to shoot.  Got the gun to shoot about a 1" group but
when ejecting the spent case, it falls off the bolt, kinda like something is
wrong with the bolt.  Took the bolt out and cleaned the brass ejector good
but it still won't pull a spent case out and onto the ground.  I thought I saw
a post on this but couldn't find it.  Am planning on call store in AM.

Any suggestions other than sending it back?

Shooting Winchester white box ammo 45 gr.

Did notice a spent case won't stay in the bolt face area when the bolt is
out.

                                       thanks  Coalminer7

my dads savage did this and it turned out to be that he was babying it and just wasnt closing the action hard enough to get the extractor a good grip.

Try a different brand or lot of ammo and see if the same problem occurs. Nothing worse than taking a new gun in and finding out that the smith or seller can't duplicate the problem that gave you fits at the range. Does not happen all the time but more than once, I've had problems diappear when I switched ammo.
