The WH series is no longer made.  The T3 placed the WH.  The main difference between the WH and the T3 is the stock.  The WH has a thicker,  heavier stock, whereas the T3 is slimmer and lighter.  Othere than that, they are almost identical, and both shooters with excellent quality, fit, and finish (and not to mention excellent accuracy.)

That said, you can still find new, or close to new, WHs on the auction sites, although finding one in a .338 will be harder than normal.

Killer,

The T-3 is a light weight rifle, the 338 win mag will be a handful for sure. Might need to consider a break or very limited use. My Ruger is 3 pounds heavier and still not what I call a joy to shoot! I do get the "Tim Allen" feeling when it goes off though. All the power we need here in the USA

I do have a T-3 stainless in 7mm-08 that is a great rifle and accurate. They are solid guns and a good value, but they have gone up in price.

Good luck with your purchase, it is a very well rounded caliber. I shoot the 180 grain Nosler Ballistic tips at 3300fps at Whitetails and 210 partitions at everything else.

338 Loads

That is some kind of deer load. Must blow a hole through that buck the size of the lincoln tunnel. As long as the Buck drops I suppose. Partition load for Grizz and Alaskan Browns must be reassuring for certain. Regards

As for owning a Tikka (I wish), I have checked them out at the shops. They have a great reputation for craftmanship and minute of angle performance out of the box. Reasonable prices also compared to the major western manufactures. Nice hunting rifles for sure.

I picked up a new in the box Tikka Whitetail hunter in 6.5 * 55 . It should be here today. No sight but I also went for the Tikka ring mounting system. Looking forward to setting it up and trying out some handloads. Regards

Killer, I have a Tikka whitetail hunter in 300 Win Mag, and I just love the gun. It is extremely accurate and pleasant to shoot. I am sure the whitetail hunter in 338 would serve you well. I would choose it over the T3 for the extra weight.  I took my Caribou in Alaska last year at a little over 300 yards with mine.  :-D  The guys I know with the Whitetail hunters all love them.  :D

I have a WH in 338 Win Mag.  Nice gun.  I am using a 200 grn FP (Hornady #3315).  @2300 fps.  The bullet was designed for the 33 Win so it should do fine.  As with any magnum it can get a little stout if you shoot it with the full power loads.  Mine likes to be shot cool to be at it's best.

found a NIB 6.5x55 whitetail hunter....you bastahd......that's on my "dusty shelf of the gun store" wish list.

Anyway, I have a Whitetail Hunter in 30-06.  It is my favorite rifle of those I own or have owned.

A big reason I like it is that the stock fits me very well.  It is a larger overall shape than say Rugers and T-3's.

I have picked up T-3's  and do not like the smaller stocks as much. They just don't fit me.  Also, and others have said this too, if you go with the synthetic stock, they are not the same quality IMHO as the Whitetail

I bought a Tikka Whitetail Hunter in a .308 a few years ago that was new but riding a gun rack at a smaller gun shop.  If one of the young family members don't get into it I may do something with it myself.  It really has a good feel to it and the wood on most of them is very nice.  Buckfever

My Friend bought a T3 in .338 mag.  Over Labor day weekend the two of us shot two boxes of 225 grain Federals.  I think we are over our post concussion syndrome.  The rifle weighs less than my wife's .243!  My Past recoil pad helped the shoulder abuse, but Ie could feel the shock from my neck to the top of my head.

Bubba I shot my last deer with the 180@3300fps. I shot the deer at 300yrds. bullet only penetrated 14 inches course it was a hole you could slide a softball down that was 14 inches long, but the deer didn't go anywhere. Also beleive it or not but the 338 with the 180 at that velocity is just as flat shooting as the 7mm rem mag.

I fired some handloads through the gun and it sure shoots. It is a Master Trapper series M695 with a shorter than standard sporter barrel. I mounted a fixed four power scope with 42 mm objective lense. Regards
