What cartridge from the past would I like to see brought back in new rifles? Frankly, none. I feel that the current availablity of cartridges and rifles reflect the best advances in ballistics, design and use of modern materials.
However, I may have had a different opinion had I been interested in gun collecting or had somehow acquired a particular rifle for reasons other than buying one that best fits the need. I am not particularly nostalgic about any cartridge or gun. I used a 30-06 for many years, but through experience have found other cartridges that better fit my needs. But, for the rest of y'all, if it feels good, do it... if you're able.
IMHO, the reason for our ability to shoot (within reason) whatever we choose is because, as Americans, we are free to do so. That and, of course, the fact that we are some Second Amendment-lovin', gunsmithin', handloading nuts! No disrespect intended to our foreign friends.
