Browning A-bolt Sleeper?????
« on: September 18, 2005, 01:29:06 PM »
Just came back from the range with my A-bolt stainless stalker rifle in 270 win. Again I could not be happier, another sub MOA gun from the get go. This is the fourth a-bolt I have purchased in the past year and a half. All have performed flawlessly and shot sub MOA. I can't say that about my remington's
I have seen a lot of praise for Tikka and Savage in regards to accuracy but little mention of Browning which leaves me to believe it might be a sleeper when rifle accuracy is talked about

I have a Browning Micro Hunter in 7mm/08. Its a great little rifle. I am in the process of Buying a new Stainless Stalker in 308. Every time I pick up a Browning I think of Quality.

I have several different bolt action riles made by different makers. Tikka, Sako, and a Browning A-bolt. All of them shoot exceptionally good.  :D

If Browning is a sleeper, then it's partner Winchester is too.  Every Model 70 I have ever owned has shot a dime-sized group whenever I wanted it.

I can't ask for anything more from a rifle. :D

I am happy with my three A-bolts. They shoot 1-1.5 MOA without any problem.   :-)  :-)  :-)

My Browning Varmint A Bolt  will shoot 4/10-6/10 inch  100 Yd groups . It did not need a tune up like some other brand rifles I have.

I think Browning makes a nice rifle.  I've been satisfied with most of mine, however my last one is a stinker.  It's a Micro-medallion in .308Win.
It weights barely 6.0lbs. and has a short, thin 20" barrel.  This rascal has a vicious kick to it, worse than some of my magnums.  It used to be a pretty rifle, but the forend now looks like it was used for hitting fungo practice from jumping out of my front rest so often.  For hunting it's not too bad since we rarely feel the recoil when shooting game  Howevetr, most of my shooting today is at the range, and the rifle is fairly brutal.  I'm used to heavy kickers, but I'm concerned about newer shooters who lack experience.  One afternoon is probably enough to keep a new inexperienced shooter from enjoying the sport.  We need more shooters today, and I doubt these ultra light rifles are the way to attract them.  Just one mans opinion.  Best wishes.

I really like my new Browning Stainless stalker in 7m08.  There are a few things that I have mentioned previously, in another post, that could be quite a bit better but over all it is a keeper.

I agree with not being a great fan of bench shooting with the lite rifles.  I think too much recoil and too much muzzle jump.  I guess for people who hunt in the colder climates it works well to use a shoulder pad for bench shooting as they will be wearing warmer clothing during the hunting season so there will be little difference in shoulder to stock feel.

I put a Timney spring kit in it and took the trigger down to 2 #'s.  It was too light for me and I started flinching.  I know it is bad form but I like to know about when the rifle is going to go off . . . no surprises. And I just could not get used to that light of a trigger.  Put the 3# spring in and it seems a little to heavy.  My Sako rifles have been about 2.5#'s and that is just right.  I suppose that I could write my own 3 Bears story only with rifles instead of porridge.  The trigger is easily adjustable but it seems to have a very narrow adjustment range.
