Found my Baby
« on: September 13, 2005, 06:11:15 PM »
:-D  About 18 months ago I sold a custom Mauser in 6.5 Swede and hated the loss of a beautiful rifle I really enjoyed. Went into the same Gun Shop today and my Baby came home. In fact this time it wears a Vari X II 3-9X40 on top. The gentlemen who bought never really used it and now it's home in my safe. I was going to use my 25-06 for my goat hunt but the Swede will work just fien!!!!! Has any one else developed a fondness for the Swede like I have. I think this little rifle will tke most game in the lower 48 including elk and moose. If you don't think so ask the Swede's what they use on their moose. Any good handloads floating around

Sometimes things just work out well! I, too, love the Swede. The 6.5X55 is one of my favorite rifle cartridges. I also am quite partial to the Model 94, 96, and 38 Swedish Mausers. I hunt with a Winchester Model 70 Classic Featherweight in 6.5X55. It is sweet, but I recently bought a Remongton Model 700 Classic (1994) in the littel Swede. I have wanted one of these since 1994. I have loaded 140 and 125 grain Nosler Partitions for the Winchester. The 125 has become my chosen hunting load. I really like Reloader 19 powder for this cartridge.

:D  Gentlemen my "baby" didher job this morning and took my first speed goat ever at 9.15 MST. It took 2 shots but that was my fault not my rifle. First round was pulled and shhot the goat in the  the face. Lord I hate to wound a beautiful animal like that. Second shot one the shoilder at 150 yards and the Buck folded  and was gone when he hit the ground. !40GR Federal Power Sok's. The only thing I can say about my performance in the field was terrible. Shot number two should have been the first!!!!!!! I couldn't ask for better performance from my rifle. Rifleman I agree I love the Swede and plan to adopt in the very near future! :-D Frankly the 6.5x55 will take most if not all game animal in the lower 48. If not why do the Swedes kill 4-5000 moose each year with this little round. I plan on building another Custom Mauser with a Thumbhole stock this time. At the range before the hunt I put 5 rounds inside 1" at 100 yards. :D  :D  :D  :D  :D         Jess

Congratulations on making meat. No one who hunts in the real world can honestly claim they have never missed or made a less than perfect shot. It sounds like you hung in there and got the job done. The second shot is arguably much harder to make than the first.

Cherish the hunt, enjoy the meat. 8)
