Just picked up a Ruger M77 MKII in 30-06 all weather.

Found a used (but you really can't tell if it was ever shot or handled!!) Ruger M77 MKII in 30-06 in SS w/synthetic stock. I believe it was made in 2000. Came with the box and rings/etc. I've been wanting a ' do everything rifle' and I think this maybe it. Just got it on paper this morning. Still need to do so fine tuning however. Seems to be accurate enough for what I want. I'm not an accuracy nut when it comes to big game rifles. Shot a 1.5" 3 shot group (best one) offhand (no rest at the range I went to) at a measured 100 yards before the barrel heated up with Rem 150 grain. Most were around 2-3" though. So I don't think that's too bad. Heck no deer/elk/bear will know the diff between 1.5" and 3". The trigger has NO creep and is about 3.5-4 lbs but is very clean breaking and crisp. The scope I put on it has me worried but it might be ok. It is a Swift model 665 (not the premier line) 1.5 -4.5 power :roll: . I had nothing else handy to put into service. The recoil was less then I thought it would be. What FACTORY loads do you all suggest I try when looking for the most accurate load? Any comments or suggestions? My first big bolt gun so I'm in new territory here. Had 2 30-30 lever guns years ago but this is a little different. The dealer was asking $425 and I ended up paying $385 out the door. Not sure what a 'like new in box, yet used' M77 all weather is worth.

Good luck with your new Ruger your going to love it , i have the ultra light version in ss syn. in 30/06 also  with a leupold 2x7 vari-xll , she likes both 150 and 180 grain bullets  and i have found that the remington express factory ammo works best. If you reload my pet load uses 59.0 grains of IMR 4350 with both hornady and remington 150 grain bullets, Later Tanoose

I have heard many good groups form 165 gr. boattails. Maybe give them a whirl. Good luck-Jack.
